I just got mine and I highly recommend upgrading... I sold my 64GB/3G iPad2 yesterday for $450 very quickly. Here's the process to move your stuff over:

  1. Take a backup (not just sync) of your old iPad2
  2. Activate the new iPad over wifi
  3. Connect new iPad to iTunes and it will offer you to restore from backup, including the old iPad's name - do so
  4. Resync your photos, apps and other assets
Done. I can't believe they stuck with this lazy name 'new iPad' - Jobs must be unimpressed

If you want to sell your old iPad, don't forget Settings->General->Reset->Everything including settings and data AFTER YOUR BACKUP

well Peter, tell us about the video display and how it performs

I don't have more data to provide at the moment, because the ipad is still sync'ing 5000 pics and videos, at home. But the display and the camera are super-sharp; it's a really truly stunning. More tonight...

which model did you get

Congrats. The reviews are raving about the display. So Apple has delivered on that front. I think I paid nearly $700 for my iPad2 when it first came out so I am going to sit this one out for a while.

I always go for the 64GB/WiFi only because I need the disk space. The previous one was a 3G but never activated; I got it new for the price of the WiFi because they'd run out of the WiFi-only version (yes, such accommodations do happen).

I hear you... this is the one I wanted last year, but you can't fight with kids. This one is maxed out from my perspective and fully meets my requirements, so I think it will stay with me for a while.

BTW, no real waiting line to speak of... I got to the store at 7:55am and was out by 8:15... nice experience, and would have been perfect if it were not for those square security guards who insisted on keeping gaps in the line right outside the entrances to the other stores. And I mean CLOSED SHUT stores.

OK I have it in front of me again, and the sync'ing took much longer; from the quality of the pictures, and really by the measure of free space left (much less than the previous ipad) which indicates larger size photos transferred, this display is simply phenomenal. I am looking at the Spectral 30SS S2 internals picture I posted here before, and the circuit board detail is exceptional. Everything is very crisp. You really need to check it out...

One of the best apps I ever downloaded is National Geographic's Dreams of Burma - Amir, the photography is sensational, and I can now appreciate all the beauty. A very highly recommended app; contains 707 photos

Another home run :)

Here's a picture with the new isight camera; the front-facing camera is also improved, but not to this level

So you read this here first... Apple internally calls this the iPad3 no matter what the marketing folks care to call it. Settings->General->About->Diagnostics & Usage->Diagnostics & Usage Data->LatestCrash.plist or any report... Shows Hardware Model: iPad3,1

I saw the ipad3 yesterday. Looks exactly the same, except for the better resolution screen and feels heavier than the ipad2. I checked, it is heavier wtf. I guess that is called progress?

Please tell me why anyone should sell their ipad2 for a 3?

Have you seen the video display. Four times the resolution of the ipad2

Yea I mentioned that, but on a 10 inch screen, it is noticeable, but hardly worth selling off an ipad2 for.

At the end of day, it is a iPad 2 with better screen.
