New AlexxV

I'm wondering if anyone has had longevity issues with the carpetish covering around the drivers.

I wish wilson would change it up some how. With the covers on these models look great but they are somewhat ugly (not enough to not buy them) without. I look at a magico m series or even a series and it's so much sleeker for the viewer. I do like the wilson shape tho.
YES although it may not be as much of a problem with these new models.
To explain, I have older X1s v3 and on those the speaker grills/covers were attached to the "diffuser" cloth using Velcro.
Eventually the covers began coming loose and even dropping off with what looked like decomposition of the 'diffusion panel' material. The process of removing (the glued material) was arduous and time consuming and worried the hell out of me, but was relatively straight forward and accomplished. I think newer speaker covers may be attached mechanically. It was a poor method IMO, but love the speakers and hope to outlive the material.

Yes I have ordered the Alexx V. My pair will be arriving in two weeks.

awesome and congrats...now i gotta ask a tough and personal question: what color?? lol

Nothing vibrant - an older color of theirs - titanium brown with extra flake; natural hardware; no grill covers - very organic.

congrats on the new speaker.

do grill covers cost extra?

No and they come in a myriad of colors. Just given a visual representation of the pair and my preference.

Will be interesting if you can comment after your dealer has installed your pair.

Specifically, to this time alignment pertaining to the respective amplifier(s) and cables one is using.

Wilson supposedly has a database of amps with their "time signatures" and this correlates to I assume the respective settings on propagation delay adjustments on the speakers.

I've read about in the WAMM MC and XVX reviews so, curious if this "technology" exists for Alexx V.

I have talked with Wilson about the database and my amp/speaker cable. They had the information and discussed it with the dealer to be applied in the setup with the Alexx V.

Interesting. I wonder what the implications are here for future considerations. Are these adjustments internal? If so, what if you change amplifiers? Or what if someone else buys your speaker down the road? Will the speakers be correct for their set-up. What does this mean for dealers who may use their speakers with various amps and cables? What provisions are there for these contingencies?

Could you please explain how time alignment is related to a specific amplifier and cable?
I thought the time alignment settings depend on the 2 parameters: a listener distance from speakers and how high your ears are:))
Thanks.

Oh, I can't but perhaps @metaphacts can.

I was curious if this technology exists on the Alexx V. And it has been publicly mentioned in reviews for the WAMM MC and XVX.

Most recently in Mr. Fremer's XVX review in the latest issue of Stereophile.

It was mentioned that an owner can send thier amp to Wilson for them to measure it if they don't already have it their database.

That being said, I assume it is a proprietary IP and Wilson can't disclose too much.

Meaning how they "measure" amplifiers and cables time signature and how that accounts for the time alignment setting on their speakers.

To me and probably Wilson Audio this is a huge game changing feature that they have over their competitors.

Hope this technology continues to trickle down thier line.

What we are doing is measuring the group delay of the amplifier and calculating an offset from standard settings. It's quite an ear opener if your system uses an amp whose group delay is significantly different from the amp used to calculate the charts in the manual.

Thank you for clarification. Is this option available for all WA speakers or just for the selected ones?

What amp would that be?

What is your reference amplifier for standard settings? The D'Agostino M400's?

BTW, I listened to the AlexxV yesterday - great speaker, well ahead of the old Allexx. Extremely detailed, but never calling attention to detail - just flowing musically.

Interesting. How do they compare with XLF in your 'estimation'?

Surely more refined, but less scale and less deep bass. But the space was smaller than the usual places I listen to the XLF, so it was hard to tell. Also the speakers still need burn-in.

Interesting. Have you heard the XVX? apologies if you mentioned this already but do not recall.

Thanks...look forward to hearing the XVX at some point. Meanwhile, still getting to know the XLF.
