The Lakers have never beat the Celtics in a 7th game of the finals.

Could this be the year?

Jack,

Very possible of course.

The year was 1985. Lakers were 8-0 against the Celts in their Finals Rivalry. The year before they just lost a bruising 7 game series to the Celts which made it 8-0. But 1985 they were not to be denied. With almost the same cast of starters they had a rematch. The result was Lakers in 6, clinching the game winner by 11 points at the Boston Garden. Anything is possible. Stats are all tabulated after the event, they cannot and do not affect nor control the outcome of any game. Any team winning will be eventful again for the statisticians. An LA win will add the stats for overcoming a 2-3 deficit, and a Boston win will add to those that won a game 7 on the road. One thing for sure tomorrow, it's the last day of David Stern's grand hoola and on to the LeBron James and D Wade Sweepstakes. lol

IMO this will be Kobe's last chance at a championship with rumors that Phil won't be back and/or he will be coaching the Cavs.

Awww, if the rumors turn out right, another well equipped team for Phil. I really have been waiting for him to coach teams like the Clippers, New Jersey, or Sacramento (sans Lebron of course) and see if he transforms them to a playoff team in a couple of years. He had Jordan, Shaq and Kobe, now Lebron too? Doesn't he like challenges? lol

Who's gonna challenge? Well, of course, we won't know until trades and free agent signings are completed. How'd you like to see the Lakers trade Odom and Artest for the rights to Amare? How'd that be for a starting front court: Bynum, Gasol and Amare. On D, the paint would be sealed. Permanently.

On paper, if the Lakers retain the core of this year's lineup, I believe they will go to finals again next year, (assuming Lebron and Wade do not join the Spurs, the Suns, or the Thunders). If Amare joins them, we can hand them the trophy on Day 1. lol.

Coach Bum Phillips(Houston Oilers) made one of the greatest quotes when asked about Don Shulas coaching ability. He replied' " He can take hisn and beat yourn. Then he can take yourn and beat hisn." I don't think Phil Jackson can do that.
