I was the happy owner of a pair of wooden cabinet 401's in the mid-70's; replaced by Acoustat X in 1977.

Whew . Remember this was 1974!

Look at the suspension towers-It predates the Oracle by 6 years. Double layer acrylic construction-predates the Michel Gyro by 6 years. Acrylic platter-predates the Pink Triangle and those that followed-Clearaudio etc. by almost a decade, A direct drive Audiophile turntable-predates the Goldmund Studio by 2 to 3 years. The oddball platter -I am not sure if it predates the awful Rega Planet or was inspired by the Rega.Cylindrical motor controller with numerical speed readout-like the Goldmund Reference almost a decade later.

It probably sounded terrible but it was Groovy! Considering the average audiophile was probably listening to an aesthetic triumph like the Fergus Fons or Thorens TD 150 with golfball arm. Lastly it was horrendously expensive ,paving the way for the pricing structures we still see today.

IIRC, in 1974 the Linn was "the" audio turntable, it seemed that by 1975 every dealer or audio society demo setup had to have one.

Very good!

Never seen one before you say it was expensive in its day. What was the price new if you know. Not to sure the lack of platter was such great idea. But it is a cool pic.
