Nadac?

Ha ha. Well I hate not finding solutions to problems. Not being able to use the mobile app with optical isolation, and dual LAN bandwidth, with the NADAC would drive me crazy.

I've actually thought of a cheaper solution that would work as well. Simply use a regular router connected to Ethernet port #2 on the motherboard, and use dual TP-Link MC220L's. One connected to the router, and one to the NADAC. That should work as well. It would be exactly like their example picture, only with optical isolation. Easier to find the parts than the other way too. You wouldn't have internet on the iPad while using it though. But will still be able to control Roon and the NADAC app.

Ethernet port # 1 will also be connected to a router, but it will just be to pipe the Internet into the server. That router will also provide an Internet Wifi connection to the house.

There may even be a way to share that Internet with Ethernet #2. But I don't know how to set that up off the top of my head. It would be nice to have Internet on the iPad at the same time.

Connecting one of the outputs on router 1 to one of the outputs on router 2, might even work to bring Internet connectivity onto that LAN.

Interesting, thank you Blizz. I shall try after the festivities.

And a merry Christmas to you all. It is Christmas Day in Sydney. Santa brought me some wonderful gifts this year - a book entitled "Memoirs of a Sea faring Life - The Narrative of William Spavens", a lovely tea towel with every major species of dog on it (seeing as I cannot have a dog where we live, this is the next best thing - while also acting perhaps as a hint), some tea, and a soap on a rope (for those of us that grew up in the 70's, you will remember the Old Spice & Brut 33 Soap on a Ropes). Bridget, my wife got a (we think) beautiful blue & green vase/candle holder and a gorgeous bed sheet set she has been after. Our wonderful domestic helper (she cleans our place once a week and is God sent), is a young woman from Italy, very kindly gave us a Pandoro, which we have never sampled before. It is delicious, much like Madeira cake. We saved half to enjoy with coffee, and the other half I think we will make into a trifle, which is a staple in NZ & Australia, at Christmas.

In the meantime one of our delightfully unique animals:

I read that, but you never said a dual LAN setup, to take advantage of the extra bandwidth which is beneficial when streaming Tidal, upsampling to DSD 256, and streaming to the NADAC.

When I read something like this it sounds like a claim to me:

"BTW I use a GISO on the copper from DLINK to the NADAC..sounds much better"

Kingsrule was just offering his experience, and I am grateful for it. Breathe Mike, breathe. Its all ok mate. There is room for everyone's level of expertise here.

I'm with Kal - a single LAN didn't work for me, but I am thrilled it worked for Kingsule - it would make my life a lot easier. Personally I'd still prefer a IR remote. Anywho all working and stable after I upgraded HQ Player to the 3.12 release from the beta.

SQ is just terrific with Roon + HQ Player. I'm s grateful that you took the time and trouble to explain it to me; You also coped with my initial dismissal of it with gentle encouragement which of course made me want to actually try it. Thanks Mike.

Although right at the moment my wife is making "stuffing" (what you would put in your turkey or chicken) to her family recipe while I am typing this, and listening to midday jazz on Sydney's 102.5FM Fine Music radio station, through my Tivoli radio. And enjoying it immensely. All with the familiar background sounds of Australia - cicadias, magpies and the odd kookaburra. And about to flick through William Spavens' marvelous 18 C account of life as a sailor.

Awesome Andrew! The new official HQplayer 3.12 release has solved all CPU issues with lower powered CPU's! Sound is great!! Merry Xmas as well!!

OT

From another Italian - try to spread a slice of Pandoro (or Panettone for that matter) with a layer of Nutella (choc cream).
You'll start singing Jingle Bells

End OT

Is poly-sinc-* family filter working fine in your system now?

Yes!! I'm streaming Tidal 16/44 to Poly-Sinc-Short-Mp-DSD5v2-DSD128 on my I3 broadwell NUC without a single glitch!!

DSD 512 no problem on I7 4790, any filter/modulator!

Thank you. I shall despite my aversion to Nutella, give it a go. BTW feel free to OT in any of my threads; I meander in my thoughts and enjoy others when they do the same. Speaking of which this book I have been given is splendid.

Wow. Now that is something. Amazing delivery before Christmas. I am so glad I supported the developer.

Yes amazing accomplishment. And trust me I put Jussi through hell and back trying to prove to me his technology was good. I was playing a little game of devil's advocate, ruffled a few feathers as always, but he ended up winning, and now I have more respect for him and his accomplishments than almost anyone in the industry!

Now we all win!

PS: Miska is Jussi

You didnt know that Jussi was the real deal from jump? I coulda told you that and saved you lots of time! Heh heh.

Actually when I first demoed it, I like most, didn't set it up right. I also wasn't clear on how it worked. So I dismissed it as snake oil, and went back to Jriver.

Hey Blizzard

Another claim (LOL)

Fiber from my switch to NADAC blows away copper, even copper isolated by a GISO.

So thanks for pointing me in this direction

Everything working on 1 LAN.......

Blizzard

Maybe I missed it but what gear do you use to make your sonic evaluations?

This is great. Now try Roon/HQplayer resampling all PCM to DSD 256. Especially when streaming Tidal. It will be interesting to see how a single LAN handles the simultaneous Tidal stream coming in and DSD 256 bandwidth going to the NADAC. Theoretically a single gigabit LAN should have enough bandwidth, but the controller chips may stall out a bit causing brief stuttering at times.

Sorry, what's an FMC? Ford Motor Company is the only thing that comes to mind. Thanks, Larry

Ha ha. Fiber media converter. It's been gone over in depth earlier in this thread.

Also on this thread. Start reading this thread from post #248. I share all details of fiber isolation as well as the results of my experiments with my streamer device. Likely even better results will be obtained with Ravenna:

Here's the solution to Andrew's problem. He needs to run a dual port FMC just like this one, right at the output his server.

Then connect one of these tiny little wireless routers up to one of the ports:

Then run the fibre to the FMC connected to the NADAC. This will put wireless onto the same LAN, so the NADAC mobile app works. But, with this dual port FMC, it's really not necessary to have the fiber NIC in the server. He could just use the 2nd copper port built into his motherboard, and return the fiber NIC. At the time I recommended the fiber NIC, I didn't realize the wireless had to be on the same LAN for the remote app.

Here's the best deal I can find. The rest of them are big bucks!

Wouldn't you need a 4 port FMC with NADAC to allow connections between the switch and the server/NAS, NADAC, computer and wireless router vs. only a 2 port FMC?

He has dual LAN networks on his PC.

So in this scenerio, the internet for streaming in Tidal will come in from LAN#1. He can use his regular household router connected to his Internet modem for this.

LAN #2 will be dedicated for server to NADAC streaming, as well as communication to the mobile control app. This is why you would need the 2 port FMC. To connect the wireless router for mobile app communication. You must have the wireless on the same LAN for the mobile app to communicate with the NADAC. I picked that router because I have 1 and works great, also is smaller than a credit card. You could velcro it to the server side FMC if you wanted. This will turn it into a FMC with onboard WIFI! Use a short 6" long Ethernet cable to connect them together.

Any recommendations on the optical cables? Or does it matter that much?
