Excellent and always fascinating Misha Mengelberg - this time a Dutch-New York quartet with Han Bennink, Dave Douglas and Brad Jones on board. Fantastic, modern post-bop playing of Mengelberg's own compositions and Monk's two iron standards: 'Monk Moods' and Criss Cross' and the title, also Monk's' Four in One'. The title perfectly reflects the character and coherence of the quartet - a combination of joyful playing and complicated thoughts with the feeling and energy of Monk, Mingus and Nichols. Maximum recommendation and maximum level of fascination! Great sound! Songlines Recordings, 2001. Session done by Joe Ferla on September 26, 2000 at Avatar Studios, NYC. Editing and mastering: Mark Wilder, Sony Studio, NYC.
