Laptop Advice

Flup,

Are you DJ-ing commercially? If so, make sure to bring the ol' CD wallets out of storage to cover your @ss if you plan on going the Hackbook route. Either install Traktor for Win on Win or stay OSX IMO.

What issues specifically? If you're talking about factory conditions, I don't think they're different from anyone else.

So yeah, unauthorized third party techs (authorized, non-Apple facilities such as Tekserve here in NYC are fine for repairs/upgrades) and DIY demanders are out of luck. Doesn't kill me that the .01% of the population that that bothers is stuck, particularly if that allows more battery life as irregular shapes can fill more space, etc.. Point, if not clear, is that this is a limitation for virtually no one. I've had no urge to change the SSD in my '08 Air and it still works fine and haven't thought a whit about how I should use it, i.e., not delete little used files, etc.

Anyway, good luck with your choice and I'll shutup now.

You Sir, are viciously convincing - never shut up - thank you.

Hackbooks unreliable? I only know one friend who attempted a hackintosh and he never got it past the install.

Commercially.

On the MacBook PRO 15 retina, I bought one for my son and for the first time in a long time, I bought the extended warranty. With the student discount, it was $300. You have to consider that in the price of the unit. Once you do, then you get replacement warranty essentially for the duration. Of course, you can almost buy a Windows PC for that much money! It was astonishing how much this thing cost at the end by the time we added SSD, more memory, etc.
