Yup … All those Terminator re runs on Netflix I suspect …Sounds like your bot has been watching TV.
This is what confused me regarding volume on the Horizon and why I thought you ran it lower than 63...I have been told that my preamp sounds best with a volume setting of about 20. That is too loud when the Horizon is at 63 so I have to lower it to about 50. If I want to keep it at 63 I have to lower my preamp to about 10. However, I don’t hear any real difference with those 2 combinations.
And FWIW you can use the Horizon together with an outboard preamp. I do. I pass full signal (63) intoI wish Lukasz would offer a Horizon sans volume control. I use an ARC 6SE, and just cannot live without a quality preamplifier (I often run 5-8 sources). These messages are exactly why I don't want a volume control with my Lampi (my Pacific fortunately has none). You end up fighting with two volume controls, and adding more complexity when it's not needed.
Actually he answered your question And BTW I owned your preamp years ago when I had alll ARC electronics. I used it to drive ARC Ref 600 mk ll mono ampsI think Lukasz himself answers your question better than I can. At this price level, purity is paramount as eliminating useless clutter from the signal pays dividends. For those who need a volume control, the traditional Horizon is of course essential. But for folks like me with a world class preamp, we don’t need to add yet another volume control. To quote Lukasz:
The circuit of this DAC is so pure and simple, that the Horizon Engine 99 can really shine, making it instantly a superb DAC in a class of its own. The soundstage is like no other. It stretches so wide and so deep that it exceeds the room boundaries and develops in our imagination beyond the walls and ceiling. Within this huge, immersive soundscape we can hear better than before where things are happening - we hear the individual musicians, their instrument, their reverb, their interplay with the recording venue and the other musicians.
I have removed them before. I don't recall the sizes. Keep in mind there are 5 allen per footer. 4 around the footer and 1 in the center. The 1 in the center is larger. The one in the center connects into the through rod that holds the top in place. Start small and you'll know when you find the 2 right allen wrench sizes...Another point I remembered is the center screw/bolt is recessed, unlike the other 4...The main bolt on the revOPods essentially would take the place of the center recessed screw/bolt in the original footers. I'm not sure how far the treads go up in the through rods. That has to be tight or you will get unwanted vibrations...Does anyone happen to know the sizing of the screw bolt that sits under the feet and mounts the bottom plate on the Horizon? I am trying to use that mount for a screw that holds the RevOPods.
