Right now I am running SE. It isn’t clear what you can put in the other 2 sockets. Do they have to be the same tube type?
When Lukasz was at my house he stated to use two inexpensive tubes in the right bank if you’re using SE as only the left are operational

I put in a set of Mullard ECC32s and listened for a while. They are not a great match with the EL51s. Too dynamic. Just didn’t like them. I will try again when I put the GEC KT88s back in but right now I am back to the 5687s.

David, have you been able to compare 6900's to 5687?

Did you buy your 5687 from Francois? If so, you have the goods and Im eager to her your thoughts. Ti my ears the 5687 was like a 6900 on steroids

I don’t have a pair of 6900s yet.

The 5687s are nice. Not sure if I like them better than the Tung Sol 6SN7s.

It’ll be of more interest to me when you finally add the Tak 274B to the mix

This week for sure once I have the 5687 sound in my brain. I know I will end up there. The Acme though sounds really good.

David.
out of interest do you also have TungSol KT170 to use with your Tak and 5687. I’m interested in how it sounds in your system

I do. My plan is to roll the GEC KT88s back in with the 5687s and then the TS KT170s. First time around with the TS 6SN7s I preferred the GECs over the KT170s. We shall se..

I have been listening to the GEC KT88s again, replacing the EL51s. The tone is very nice but I think the EL51s have more attack. Both are very worthy choices. I will put the KT170s in again tomorrow.

Am I correct in saying no one has tried a pair of 6H30DRs yet? I will be in the next couple of days.

I’d sure love to know if you have a source as my amps use quad matched sets in each channel. Price has gone insane with this tube

Unfortunately, they are hard to come by these days. I bought them years ago for my ARC and BAT equipment which I sold years ago.

Quad matched sets x. 2 are impossible to find. Last I saw a quad set was almost $2K. They last about 18 months in my LAMM ML3

I am ready to declare the Tung Sol 6SN7 (black glass round plates variant) a better sounding driver tube in my setup than the 5687 or 6H30.

The 6SN7 gives the music more weight than the others while maintaining the proper tonality. The bass is deeper and fuller.
