I've seen the Kronos turntable in operation at shows when it first came on the scene. It features two counter-rotating platters run by two motors. I heard the reason or explanation for having two platters as something like: "the second platter is needed to cancel the torsional forces of the first."

Can someone say what this means and why two counter-rotating platters are important for turntable operation?

Base on Physics once the platter rotate it will create Centrifugal Force that trend to moving turntable that why in theory better to have balancing force generated from the second platter that counter rotating . This is only one technical from many that designed and built KRONOS .

The Kronos were completely omnipresent at shows for some time and now they aren't anymore.
Maybe the gimmick lost it's appeal?

47 Labs was the first company to use this gimmick. Looks cool but doesn’t seem to have any effect on sound.

Sorry , this would be meaningful only if the Kronos platters were very poorly balanced! Centrifugal forces are not an issue with the Kronos or any decent turntable.

The second platter just cancels the angular momentum of the main system due to the spinning main plater. As the total angular momentum of the suspended chassis is now null it becomes more free.
