Hi, I’m new to the forum and just purchased an Urushi Wajima.
My Urushi Wajima looks very different from any others I have seen online - have you seen one like this? Pictures of them online look a lot more gold and detailed maybe.
It makes me nervous it’s a fake.
It sounds good but then I have no idea what it should sound like as I’ve never heard an Urushi.
Your thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks from New Zealand.
Matt.

It’s certainly different looking.
Doesn’t mean it’s fake, though. I’ve attached a pic
Maybe take photos of the box, the top, cartridge pins etc and sure the experts on here can verify for you, even the stylus cover.

I have a Koetsu Black Goldline, which is what I’m replacing and it’s 100% genuine as purchased from my official local Koetsu dealer.
The box I just got with the Urushi is different-slightly smaller and different wood.
Question - do all Koetsu come in exactly the same box? If yes, then my Urushi must be fake.

Again, speaking from experience only and having never actually paid too much attention, the boxes are generally of the same size and construction, but maybe the seller used a different one?
Again, it doesn’t mean it’s fake so take some further pics and see if anyone can give you definitive assurances.

New to this forum and seeing this. The boxes are all the same size as far as I am aware, The wood is very light, that might be the give away if it was fake.

As all are handmade, none are identical so post more pictures

I just received a brand new Koetsu Urushi Wajima, which looks nearly exactly the same than yours.

In some markets the Distributor sells them as Urushi "Gold" or Urushi "Black"

Hope you enjoy. The internals should be virtually identical with slight variations in the lacquer application.

I am finally able to use mine having received my speakers a couple of weeks ago preceded by my CD player and clock. Lots of albums to catch up on…

koetsu makes too many models to track. Then there are the aftermarket modified Koetsus. I suppose it will boil down to whether you trust the seller and if it sounds like a Koetsu. If you like and enjoy the sound, don't be nervous about it being fake or not. At the end of the day, enjoying the sound you like is more important.
