I'm Stoked With My Birthday Present

Birthdays are rarely fun as we become older but my last over this past weekend brought with it an amazing gift from my wife. As you all know I am a devoted Mac/Apple user and for the past 3 years have been using a 4 year old Desk Book Pro which although far from shabby couldn't hold a candle to the gift I received from my wife.......

A new 15" Mac Book Pro with Retina Display

All I can say is that I am mesmerized at the video display on this computer including the ease with which words can be read. In fact WBF seems like an all new website to me. It is almost as if what I was watching or reading before was behind a blurred lens. Things are so sharp that it is almost unreal. The speed of this computer with 8 gigs of RAM is blistering fast. It is ultra thin and very lightweight as compared to my last Mac. This is due to the absence of an optical drive which Apple is now beginning to do. I really don't miss it and should the occasion arise I have an external drive to serve that function.

I just can't see the need for another computer (famous last words) as for now this one delivers way above expectations

I am also impressed with the SS hard drive. In fact the computer is dead quiet as it has absolutely no moving parts

Happy birthday!

Happy B'day Steve.
BTW, I hope your wife also bought you the extended warranty. I used mine on my Imac several times and it saved me some good money. Wouldn't you know it ran out of warranty a couple of weeks ago and now the Imac is back at Apple having the hard drive replaced ( luckily this was under their recall program) BUT also the video card went down:(. So, a not inexpensive repair. Just like everything, even Apples have a certain life. Typing this on Sony Vaio, a good laptop, BUT not anywhere near as great as your Mac Book Pro. Battery failed on it after the first week. I am now on my fourth battery, which so far seems to be......bzzt..

The Mac Book Air is amazing. Light as a feather

I did get Apple Care

I've got the same one and I love it as well. I bought an external optical drive since I have one application that is not downloadable (but it is still in the box).

I think I love the solid state hard drive and overall speed as much as the display.

Happy Birthday. Great gift.

First of all happy b-day, Steve :)

Regarding the Retina laptop, it's a beauty. Weight, display and speed are great. I read about some detractions, such as the limited after-market customization (which, practically, might be interesting to a limited crowd), but I really don't get why they did not include the mini-slot for a lock

Happy Birthday, Oneobgyn! Many best wishes for a million more posts on your new computer, Steve...on WBF of course!

Happy birthday Steve!

Tim

Happy Birthday, Steve.

The retina display is amazing. I hope you live long enough to need numerous more advanced computer replacements.

When I got my first computer in my office (IBM 386 running DOS 3.0) we got an 80MB HDD and 2MB RAM at $1200 per MB. The dealer told us we only needed 1/2 MB RAM, but we splurged! He told us we would NEVER fill up the hard drive!

Happy Birthday Steve!

Those Mac Book Pro's sure are pretty!

Enjoy your new toy!

John

Happy birthday Steve.
