i received an update from iFi Audio. They were unable to replicate the situation of which I complained. Nor hass review revealed a similar problem. I assure you that it was real. Perhaps it was intermittent and unique to my unit.
Edit
The main board was replaced out of caution

You guys are so smart I don't always explain things fully.
As most are no doubt aware some car stereos have an aux function. This allows you to plug your smartphone into your car stereo. You then use it as a source. What I propose is to place the Diablo in between the smartphone.
Wearing headphones while driving is not only dangerous but illegal in some states
I am happy to hear you found another way to make most of your Diablo. 3.5mm to 6.5mm is a useful converter. I believe you should have a 6.3mm to 3.5mm included in the Diablo set, so in case you wanted to use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable you would not have to purchase a separate cable.
Of course. However, if you look at it from a different perspective, the art of composing a complete audio set-up, if it was not not a challenge, would it be that much fun?
iFi audio Question: What $1k DAC gets used at a show with a $300,000 system and gets one of the 'best sounds of the show by Stereophile?' Diablo of course!

“And what about the iFi Diablo? What's a C$1300 DAC doing in a system with a C$350,000 amplification chain? Is Mr. Lemay of Lemay Audio crazy for including it? Crazy like a fox. I said it in last year's report, and I'll say it again: The iFi Diablo is a giant killer.”
Even Michael Fremer... “that was so funny.... the DAC they switched in was an iFI DAC and they said sounded better than ANYTHING else they used in the room. I was shocked!” On the big PMC speakers and the Accuphase amps.
