How long are your listening sessions?

Hello and please allow me to offer you a very warm welcome to the What's Best Forum.

To answer your query for myself? It completely depends. If I am working from home, the amount of time I am listening increases dramatically. If not, usually every evening, unless the wife and I have a date or obligation elsewhere. On the weekends, pretty much anytime I am home and not working out in the yard.

My listening sessions have ranged from just a couple of hours to well over 16 to 17. There have been multiple occasions where I will wake up in the listening chair in the very early hours of the morning, only to realize that what I woke up too sounds great, so it's "I'll listen to this song and then head to bed". 2 hours later, I am still listening. Sometimes, I don't even bother going back to bed, depending on what my schedule the following day looks like.

Sometimes, it's just hard to pull yourself away from something that sounds so good.

You're a very lucky man, how about sharing a slice of heaven via a system video?

I’m a creature of habit. Most nights after dinner, I listen to two or three albums for a total of about 90 minutes. I almost never listen to my system outside this sacred (to me) time of day, in part because it’s in the basement.

I'm a night owl, my listening sessions start at 8pm and then often go on until 3am. My Kuzma CAR-50 only sounds perfect after two records. In addition, the mains power in my region is only perfect after 10pm. I usually listen twice a week, sometimes more often if I've got new records.

I don't listen daily or regularly or as a habit. I play the stereo once or twice a week at most. I may not play the stereo for two or three weeks if I am focused on other things.

All status lights have to glowing green. By this I mean I have to be relaxed, I have to have done my exercise, I have to have done my chores, and I definitely can't be hungry -- I have to be relaxed and fed and be in the right mood. All mental stars have to be in alignment for me to want to go listen to music.

I think of listening sessions as events, as deliberate and conscientious alternatives to watching a movie or to playing with the girls or to going out for dinner or to being engaged in some other dedicated activity.

I don't do casual listening or use music in any background listening way. Because I view listening sessions as a dedicated, concentrating activity I want the musical reproduction to be as believable and emotionally engaging as possible. I want the time to be well spent. This is why that for me and my personal preferences I still focus on analog -- vinyl and tape.

I share your listening habits. I find that time spent away from my system keeps it fresh and that I am more likely to slip into the magic. Also, cartridges last a lot longer between rebuilds.

Wife in town— 2 hours
Wife out of town— 4 hours

I typically I listen everyday. System is on 6-7 hours a day. If I'm writing or doing something around the house music is playing. If I know I will be working outside usually fall and winter, I won't turn the system on until I know I will be back in the house.
Interesting enough when I get on the rower which is every other day I pause the music. Too intense to actually enjoy music...

Most every evening for at least 1 hour. Also I office in my home and I do have a small class D system that plays all day.

On work days a couple of hours during the evening, on non work days I try to manage an hour or so in the afternoon and my usual evening session. Of course everything has to revolve around family life, thankfully my family understand my idiosyncrasies.

5-6 hours maybe 2 times a week, 3 if i can find the time. I need a window of at least 4 hours before i turn the system on, just hate getting into the groove and being forced to stop by other engagements. :) Mostly late night listening sessions.

1 to 1.5 hours in the evening. Usually mixed in with a workout. I may workout for about 45 minutes. I do listen intently either between sets or when I'm done for 20 minutes.

Sometimes I go for a week without listening. Other times I'm there every day.

I am torn when it comes to where the stereo is located. When it was in the living room, the quality was limited, but I played it 4 to 5 hours a day. With the system in a dedicated room, I play it less, but the quality is much higher.

Sometimes I’ll get wound up and play 15 records (30 sides) back to back (subject to breaks for “drain and refill.”)

But most of the time it’s two to three hours and may as likely be digital as analog.

I listen to enjoy the music rather than to sit in awe of how my system presents it. But it helps that I am still in awe of how real most program material sounds. And that’s true for the digital formats as well as the analog.

I do not listen while I exercise … instead I stream TV.

FWIW, it goes without saying that I do listen daily, usually in the afternoon or early evening.

I must say pretty interesting to "hear" of others listening habits. The frequency I find fascinating. I recently added Gryphon Mephisto Solo Monoblocks. For the interim someone let me borrow some other Mono's. I will be polite and call them mediocre at best. I did appreciate the gesture. For 3 weeks I used the borrowed amps. But having the system compromised, it was the least amount of listening I have done in years. Once you wrap your brain around what you like, its rather difficult (at least it was for me) to enjoy while taking a few steps back in sound quality...
