Hi everyone, I’m choosing the Pre/Pow combo for my Scala right now. I’m torn between the Luxman C10X/M10X and Gryphon Pandora/Antileon. Both sets have the same second-hand price in my area, and I can’t demo them at home. Hope I can get some insight into the synergy between Focal and Luxman or Gryphon in terms of:

- Tonal Balance;
- Resolution;
- Imaging/Soundstage;
- PRaT.

Other gear:
- Switch: LHY AS Pro 8
- Network Transport: Hifi-rose RS130
- DAC: Gustard X30
- Cable: All cable from Neotech

My playlist:

both should work excellently. Just choose the one you vibe with aesthetically

I have owned the Focal Scala. While Tonal Balance, Resolution, Imaging/Soundstage and PRaT are very important, the main issue with these speakers in the amperage and power they require to control the bass.

Maybe the Gryphon is up to it, hard to say. I ended up using a pair of Pass X600.8 monos, that did the job nicely. I would look there.

A good friend of mine is running this setup now, and seems pretty happy.

I would not buy an amp for these without listening to it with this in mind.

Just my 2 cents, since you asked.

The Scala is set up for biamping, so the other approach is to split your preamp output and feed the woofers separately with something that has a ton of current, like a Parasound Halo JC-1 or something.
That will let you optimize the sound of the mid and tweets, which is what you really hear.

The dynamics are much better. I did this with both the Scala and the Maestro's that replaced them. They become a much different and better speaker when biamped.

gryphon Antileon will drive any speaker. It will put out 1200 watts into a one ohm load. The new Revelation should be even better

I have the same pair of speakers and I'm using the Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 800.2. Plenty of power and great control. Midrange and highs are very nice and smooth. Bass is nicely controlled and definitely not bloated.
