Good morning, members of the WBF. Just thought I'd give a heads up for those who might not have heard and enjoy what Norah Jones has to offer.

I think I'll pass. I wonder if she ever figured out her batteries died on her first hit?

Mark, I'm with you, although (maybe?) for different reasons: she just went too country for my taste.

Ron-It's hard to believe she is Ravi Shankar's daughter. Compared to her sister, she appears to have cast off her ethnicity. So you think she went from a jazz-type singer to more of a country crooner? Honestly, I didn’t follow her after her debut album. I became bored to death.

As for the “batteries” comment, I was really making a joke about her first hit “I don’t know why.” Follow the rest of the lyrics and you might get the joke or it may pass overhead at mach 2.

Selling 40 million albums, winning nine Grammys and doing it without much attention to commercial interests tends to make it difficult to see how much you suck. Evidently she's not reading enough thread crap on the internet. Her bad.

The SACDs are going to sell for $229.99 for 6 discs. That's $38.33 per disc. I'm not sure how good or bad the mastering was on a few of the redbook CDs, but most of them sounded merely average on my system. For this premium price, I'd hope for a substantial boost in sound quality over the original editions.

I got the same promo from Elusive Disc.

So far, i have had very, very good experiences with the Analogue Productions Remasters. i am curious to get one or two of these myself.

Thank you. very much appreciated.

I guess i am the lone wolf here in that I really like everything she has done. She is a true blue musician and very dedicated to her craft.

She could have easily made Come Away With Me 5 more times and cashed in, but she chose to follow her muse. I am along for the ride.

Having seen her several times live I can tell you she is a charmer. I have large collection of live recordings as well.

As far as these remasters, they are definitely pricey. Above my pay grade. I would love to hear them, but to me the original CDs really don't sound bad at all.

No analog?

Hey Bruce. I thought at least Come Away With Me was recorded to tape.

I think it was determined the original SACD was upsampled PCM if I am not mistaken.

BTW, I am going purchase the Radio Music Society in 24/96. How did that one sound to you?
Gosh it reminds me of Joni Mitchell's late 70's forays into pop jazz. Also Weather Report.

.

I have the Blue Note SACD of "Come Away with Me" and it's definitely upsampled from 24/44.1

Hey, Bruce! If you don't mind me asking, how can you tell this? I have the same one.

Fair enough. Is there anything audible to pick on? I ask because I am curious to why you mentioned this fact.

If you want the source, why not ask for the original 24/44.1 files, instead of an upsampled SACD or going to LP?? That's just a poor business decision. If the files are "that good", issue in 45rpm.

Tim-I’m not saying that she isn’t talented and that people shouldn’t wait with bated breath for her next release. I’m happy for her and all of her success she has enjoyed. We all don’t like the same things. I’ve moved on.

I probably won't get the box set, but I have great respect for her because she doesn't appear to be a musician who lets anyone in the industry drag her around by the nose. She follows her instincts, and that is good, whether you care for her music, or not. Maybe her success is a fluke because her style is a bit different, but I believe she genuinely loves what she is doing. I hope she sells 40 million more albums. Music needs as many people with her mindset as it can get.

I've posted this before, but her work on 'Rome' was terrific. I think she's found her sound with Danger Mouse (who is producing her upcoming release):

Well, I have all her disc's, like them all. Karen not so much, not an NJ fan there.

Bruce - i own the CD only...what is your thinking about the original SACD vs this 'new release' SACD? I have had good experience with Analogue Productions...but am not sure if this is truly an upgrade relative to the original SACD...or whether this is marketing 'repackaging and reselling'. If so, i may as well buy the original SACD on Amazon second hand for 1/3 the price.
