DSD to PCM Conversion A/B Test Results

Weiss Saracon was good, and I use the Tascam Hi-Res editor almost weekly.

The free Tascam/TEAC editor was an interesting case. I wish they'd done more to support it. Last year they told me they didn't even keep a record of who wrote it.

One of the reasons I'm interested in this subject is because of nasty DSD track transitions in certain player+DAC combinations. One solution is DSD track concatenation, which this editor provides, if you don't run into a file size limitation. And btw, I recently saw sacd_extract (SACD ripping) provides this as one option to address popping between DSD tracks.

Still use the Pyramix Hepta conversion for all my DSD work. Was used in all the Jerry Garcia/Grateful Dead tape transfers I did.

We do too, beside others. When I am working on my Mac(s) I am using the others.

A year or so ago Tom Caulfield was kind enough to do several conversions for me from DSD256 (Stereo Sound Japan remasters) to DXD using Pyramix and HQP-Pro. They were both very good and both very close to each other on my system.

Though I believe my MSB DAC favors PCM, sometimes I prefer to hear native DSD in DSD. As mentioned above, this can be problematic when DSD track transitions pop (as they can do with my Taiko XDMS player + MSB combo). So for now, in cases where I want the DSD and have lots of short tracks, I'm resolving with DSD track concatenation.
