DS Audio Ionizer

Good for you. With that level of lack of concern, I wouldn’t bother asking about the IME-1 deionizer’s effect on sound.
Did I personally attack you? Did you write the article?

No, you didn’t. And if I sounded harsh, that wasn’t my intention. I just wanted to point out that audio hobby usually requires a detailed and concerned look.

There are many reasons why a dry room is bad for all of your components - and your health. You should not rely on an ionizer to prevent static electric *shocks* in winter. You can completely fry a component that way - be careful! Get a small and cheap humidifier just for this room and shut it off when you’re listening. Monitor humidity with a low cost meter.

Relative humidity should be at these levels, based on outside air temp:
Humidity Setting - Outdoor Temp.
> +5C = 45-50%
+ 4.5c = 45%
0c = 40%
-7c = 35%
-12c = 30%
-22C = 22%
A home's humidity level when the outdoor temperature dips below 20F degrees is no more than 35 percent. That level drops by 5 percent with each 10 degrees of drop in temperature.

Do not make the mistake of 50% humidity when the outdoor temp is below 5C or you will create too much moisture which is bad for electronics.
I used to used a humidifier. It made no difference to the amount of static on the record. Perhaps it is because I have a large room and I was never able to raise the humidity by more than a few percent. More importantly, one day I left a record on the turntable and when I came back i noticed a little bit of white haze on the record. And when I wiped other surfaces in the room it was clear they were covered by the same stuff. Bottom line is the ultrasonic humidifier was aerosolizing the minerals in my tap water which weren't being removed by the Brita water filter. Using "distilled" water from Safeway, which is really just deionized water, would have cost nearly $1 a day. So no thank you.
