OK, the band is wanting to come up with an arrangement of "Down In Hollywood," By Ry Cooder, so I just listened to Bop Til You Drop for the first time in years. I'm very surprised by what I hear, as this, the first commercial all-digital recording, has been reviled in audiophile circles for being the epitome of all the things bad about early digital (1979; That's pretty early). The thing is, it isn't the best recording I've ever heard -- some of the background vocals seem a bit congested -- but it's not at all what I expected. It's not harsh, brittle, thin. It's actually kinda...warm. Fatish lower midrange in places. With some great percussion and electric guitar tones.

I'm listening on Spotify. Do you suppose the codec compression could be making it sound better?
