* Did you watch a film last night (on Blu or DVD), and what was it? *

I don't watch the news much because generally they are the kind of news that are sad, pathetic, terrible, awful, violent, corrupted, disgusting, ...news that attract most people in search of thrills that they don't have in their own normal lives. So by checking other people's news by media who love to provide their own bias and calculated effects so that they generate maximum audience for top $$$ profits, we become zombies, we lose our identities and we live through what others want to impose us from other people's own lifestyles.
We love comparing ourselves with other's, rich and poor, judge others that don't fit our own line of thinking and life's habits. It's human nature, it's normal, and they don't teach that stuff @ our universities. Or unless you take human sociology and psychology and psychiatry. But usually we take courses on cosmos to become astronauts, scientists, engineers, lawyers, judges, police officers, teachers, farmers, builders, hotel managers, brokers, TV announcers, actors, insurance salesmen. ...Etc.

So the less news I put in my brain the more I live my own life and do the things I enjoy doing. Like mountains walking and climbing, music playing, driving the countryside, eating new cuisine, watching the wildlife, being connected, grounded with the earth and its true essence...relationships with everyone, everything that provide peace and happiness.

This is just a short intro to what I'm just about to share. It's free, no one is forcing you to read any of the written words. There is no bad words, no bad things in here; all is very very good. What we see @ the movies we're free to share our impressions, just like the music we listen to and the type of display we use to screen and the medium we use...DVDs, tapes, Blu-rays, etc. We as a human race evolve. With new technologies we adapt to the world of the computers and Ethernet. Our TVs are getting larger than life and our music is in our homes often better than live. We let our toys take over, we let them direct us like robots; perhaps we don't realize it but it's true if you only take a short moment to think about it.
We elevate ourselves and diminish others; we really do, most people. It's normal, the world doesn't stop spinning and it doesn't have the time to adjust, fine tune the spinning revolutions. ...Like the fast speed of snow and ice melting caused by warmer oceans. No big deal, there are other things much more precipitated/urgent than that, like a master degree in architecture. It's just an example.

There are tribes yet undiscovered in unknown/unexplored jungles and forests of our planet. Yet we're looking for other planets of our galaxy to see if there are other human intelligence living up there... It's normal, we look outside more than inside; it's a natural human thing. And it's nicer to look far away than too close.

Sure, I could have done without my film's introduction, and all would be swell. I'm a writer, a film watcher, a communicator, a people from the earth, a human; and I do have what everyone's else has...a uniqueness in my DNA. :b So, without any further delay, here's what I saw last night on my screen @ home from a Blu-ray disc:

I don't know if you read or heard about it; it don't really matter because you're about to find out just now.
Wow, what a great film, a breath of fresh air, a smart perspective, an outlook on the outdoors, an inside stretch, an open insight on some of the things we think but don't do...
We all have our own family values, and we grow up with them, and follow them. We go to school and learn from the teachers and their teachings. We don't question, we execute to be educated and have a career, have a family and be happy. It's normal, it's what every human being is aspiring to. ...And the exact same for this family here.

I've read not long ago one guy saying that when you are cremated your ashes shouldn't be kept inside an urn and exposed @ home or spread into the ocean or winds...
I don't know that guy, I've never met him. But in that movie it's interesting...that very subject. I won't tell what happened but I loved it! You have to see that film. If you are going to watch only two movies in the next couple months, include this one in. I guarantee, you won't regret.

An eccentric father raises his six children in a remote forest in the Pacific Northwest. But when a family tragedy prompts them to take a road trip to New Mexico, the kids are forced to interact with the outside world for the first time.

My overall own personal value score: 87

It's a real cool family, it's funny, it's touching, it's liberating, entertaining, reflecting of our own set of life's values...

Starring:
Viggo Mortensen
Frank Langella
Kathryn Hahn
Steve Zahn

It's less than two hours, with the rolling credits @ the end, and it didn't make over a billion dollar @ the box office.
Box office: $7.7 million

Last word: There is magic in the air around us all. Have a good time breathing it...watch that flick.

The Saint
I've always liked this film
The Russians are stereotypical sleazeballs
Even the ones who help him
Nice touch with Roger Moore st the end

Loved the series and the books, the movie was quite good too!

Into my library of disc

LA Confidential
Chinatown

Both are similar in a few ways
Homage to 'film noir', corruption and been done many times before but these IMHO are above the fray

Solid movie. There's a game on PS3 called 'LA Noire' with similar atmosphere too.

Have you watched some Nordic Noir?

I have not, unless you consider the original Dragon Tattoo films in that genre.

Yes, I think it qualifies.

There is a thread about Nordic Noir I made in the TV sub I think.

Curiosity took over me and resistance was futile:

I watched the 3D BR version. Now I love 3D and I love Blu-ray movies, but this 3D BR flick I just don't love it.
And so much so that I won't even bother posting comments, except for only this:
The film is awful, cheesy, dark, no life, not one ounce of intelligent entertainment, zip. It shouldn't have been made.

Overall (film merit): 12

Technically (3D picture and sound): Even there it is inferior, in particular the 3D picture. The sound (effects) and dialog are fine. The music not my style, and because it's a FOX BR title the regular Blu and 3D version are exempt of Atmos (present only on the 4K version). Shame on FOX who is forcing their supporters (financial investing people, us the customers) to upgrade and get on with their own program/agenda...like a dictatorial Hollywood movie studio. FOX is the baddest of the baddest...remember Avatar 3D, with Panasonic exclusive deal?
Oh well, not much we can do; it would take many many customers to make a difference, and that, won't just simply happen.

Last word: Stay far away from this fiasco by FOX movie studios. This flick was made for one reason only; money. There is no heart, no art in it, none.
You have been warned, and right here @ WBF.

You can watch this trailer ? if you have to or feel like it:

The trailer ? starts like if the army is going to Mosul, and looking over the city. But this is far from reality; it's just an illusion as alien ships are taking over.
Some movies it's just best to forget and watch the world news instead.

^^me don't think Bob likes it

I did like those three quite a bit. I have the extended set.
Got a kick of how Lizbeth nails lovely nerve damaged stepbrother to the floor and sets up his brutal ending

I don't have a 4K OLED TV yet and it's ok because I still love 3D and 3D doesn't come in 4K anyway.
So, last night I watched this in 3D, but it also comes in 2D (2K and 4K), and it also comes with a Dolby Atmos (overhead sounds) audio soundtrack for people equipped with the latest and best of the best sound design (depending of the sound mixer) in our today's world of ultra high definition picture and ultra high (height) resolution sound design.
I could talk about FOX and Disney movie studios from Hollywood here regarding their Atmos/4K/3D strategy, but that, for another movie business thread, when predisposed in time and in space...

There are many Trek fans out there; I have all their movies, including their original ones in one format or two or three. But I don't consider myself a fervent fan, just a sci-fi/humor type of movie lover. And in the year 2016 with 3D, 4K and Atmos it helps to elevate the experience on a higher plateau still.

So, what's my take on this latest? Well, in my honest opinion it could have been better, more intelligent, more mature, more interesting, more effervescent.
I do understand the childish aspect of it, but I would like to see Trek growing with a new generation of more intelligent kids...our kids. And on that, I feel it failed miserably. That's my take; the storyline and acting is just too much soap opera. We need to grow up...

Overall (film and technical aspects): 65 (borderline). Still worth the risk for the undecided, with a degree of insecurity...

Last word: I have no clue about the 4K version, but the 3D one is ok...nothing super-ordinary and it's time to push the envelope, the 3D envelope. Here they did nothing towards that, none @ all. The sound effects are your regular recreated mixing fabrication from plastic consoles with plastic buttons by computer slides and it's all fake...of course it is...it's a Star Trek sci-fi flick. All in all none new here, all old recipe from the 20s and 30s. ...Way of speech.
Dare...

Last night I watched a cool animation flick... 'Sausage Party'

sausage-party-blu-ray-cover-side.jpg

It was totally outrageous, very out of the ordinary, completely unexpected (not really because I've read and knew the score).
This is not an animation movie for kids and young girls. It was written by very intelligent young men, from both sides of the border.
We are in very good hands if we keep making movies like that... The entire world will be proud of us, with deserved reason. :b

This film is a perfect reflection of the world we created with our super heroes and our super markets ... world of consumption for the body and mind...welcome to America.
We still have forests (not raped yet), and we still have oceans on both sides (unspoiled yet by radioactivity) with plenty of fishes and whales.
Sausages...we have that too...and pigs and cattle (beef). Our super food stores are full of good stuff for us and we know it, and our food know it too.
So it's like party time @ the super food market store with all type of fun and delicious characters...even they had an orgy. Oh yes, you're read that right.

For folks with a good sense of humor it will rock your fishing boat, for conservative folks you might put the brakes to your young ones here, because swearing and other stuff is common normality for Sony adopting this new genre. ...Remember 'The Interview'? ...Same people contributing back then and now; except now it's animated.

I won't be shy, overall score (film value only): 65 ...And I am extremely generous and not selfish.
Technical aspects only (sound & picture): 80

Tagline: "After they learn the horrifying truth about what happens when they are purchased, a misplaced sausage and his food friends embark on an existential adventure through the aisles of a massive supermarket."

Last word: Check it out, don't be shy, don't act and feel too reserved, invite your friends over, celebrate with beers and pot legalization.
Wait till your young ones are asleep and tight in their future dreams. Don't mix with other stuff that might humidify the spice.

Addendum: Oh yes, I know what happened else last night too, and much much more; and this BR flick was the perfect doze of normality in an abnormal world.
The main thing is this; know your priorities well and don't expect anyone to provide what you can provide best your own self...the food we eat...for our brain, our bodies and souls. We're in it all together, team work.
Tomorrow is today's decision based on yesterday's multiple mistakes.
...Human nature and massed complications coming from our imperfect world...cinema speaking, of course, what else. Ya, check it out...dare a little.
There are two flip sides of a coin; throw it in the air and follow the fall...

* It's in Dolby Atmos (thx Sony for that).
