I must say, I am skeptical of the performance of odd designers like MBL when it comes to loudspeakers. In this showing though, they managed to impress me a lot. Wonderful mid to high frequency detail with impressive dynamics. I am still not a fan of its omni-directional design and sound but can easily see the appeal for many. As you can tell from large number of pictures, I spent a lot of time there.

From what I recall, this system was on static display and not playing anything:

How do those work, anyway?

Vertical 'driver' flexing the petals?

Ray,

There are a series of "petals" on each omnidriver.

Think pulsating sphere.

Have no idea how they "energize" the individual petals.

I'm glad Amir liked the speaker. I love my 116's. Of course, I'm biased.

Stereophile:

"A signal applied to the bottom-mounted voice-coil of each of the three visible circular-section drive-units uniformly flexes each driver's array of vertical petal-like segmants to produce a uniform, 360° horizontal wave launch."
