CD/SACD Recommendation

Even with a separate DAC, my problem is that I listen a lot to SACD and can not send from the oppo to the external DAC through digital cable, so the external DAC would be of no utility when you listen to SACD. Thats why i am looking for a better player

There where my suggestion for a vanityHD103 modded Oppo comes in. This will allow you feed digital DSD and PCM to a DAC.

No, it won't. Check p. 64 of the owners manual.

But in any case, although I don't own one, every time I've heard the Playback Designs it has sounded like music in every sense. And it is easily upgradeable, as Bruce points out.

Check out audiopraise.com. There is a board you can buy that replace the analog out board, which will convert the Oppo to a digital transport which outputs full rez DoP and PCM.

Do you have one? Because the products described on the Web site you mention don't appear to offer that.

I agree, the product description do not offers that capability

Shoot them (Pavel) an email. The latest version of the vanityHD board with appropriate firmware supports DoP output. It is shipping and being used - you can find a thread on this on the PS audio DirectStream forum. I have the older version which does not do DoP.

Buy the K-01 listed for 9K on audiogon and get it upgraded for $1K to K-01x" and presto!

I am not sure it is a full upgrade. They may not be able to upgrade to the new chip set/ clock.

It is the Vanity103HD board (discussed in your link). I own the 93HD board which does not do DSD, but otherwise works brilliantly. It is for sale because I ripped my SACD's and play from server now.

The best way is to play music from a server period IMO.

Has anyone compared a fully tricked out Oppo105/ModwrightTruth to the EVC/Rick Shultz version?
