Can 5u4GB rectifier be used in the H5000?

Hi, I have just acquired a used Allnic H5000 phono, which came with 5u4GB rectifiers. The online manual I got on the H5000 stated the filaments of the rectifier must draw less than 2A (the 5u4GB’s filaments draw 3A)!

I have also seen some H5000 users in WBF successfully used the 5u4GB with no apparent ill effect. As such, I would like to ask whether the 5u4GB can be used safely in the H5000 ?

Thanks in advance

Power Supply:

• Two (2) x 5U4G – Rectifiers: equivalents - any 5V octal-base rectifier, indirectly or directly heated.

Some recommendations

WE422a - also Stradi is developing a replica of this tube

Stradi 5u4g

First of all I want to congratulate you on this wonderful purchase, in Europe they are a very rare commodity and I have never found a used one in the last three years. As for the rectifiers I have tried them all on my h 7000 including the we 422a which is now a sort of holy grail. my preference goes to the U52 because even if it doesn't reach the mid range of the 422a it guarantees me a tighter bass and still has super excellent mids and highs. I also really like the stradi that I have but it needs to complete its running-in to be able to express a complete opinion. also the kr 5U4G is something delightful and guarantees you a much greater sense of dynamics than the others. if I had to start over I would throw myself without hesitation on the stradi because with only 600 euros you would win a pair of formidable and good sounding rectifiers with an attached warranty, while for all the others you will have to rely on good luck. in fact even for the KR you could have a replacement guarantee in case of malfunction but for a pair you would have to spend at least 900 / 1000 euros.Keep in mind that all these rectifiers can be used mainly according to what you want to achieve and the unique characteristics of your system, so as to optimize and harmonize their use with your tastes.

Thank you for the direction, I will have a lot of tube rolling to do for sure! I was thinking of trying the Elrog 274B, but just got the news that they have stop making it !

Takatsuki 274b is wonderful.
WE422a is as expensive and in my opinion superior.
Osram / Marconi u52 : Mumbai father / son dealer has many and they are reliable. Zubair and Umar Shk.

Also consider the Spacetech labs STR104Mk2 - It externalised the rectifier in its own powered box and connects via a cable to the rectifier socket. They are very good! https://space-tech-lab.com/Accessories/STR-104.php
Looks like a nice game. If anyone has tried it in Allnic preamps and phono amps please let us know.

Given your great experience and knowledge, what do you think about this device, have you ever tried it?

Not sure if this is addressed at me, but....

Please write your impressions and what improvements you had from using it instead of simple rectifiers, I see you use WE tubes, have you tried others?
It gives better, punchier bass, bigger sound picture with incredible sound stage, and generally a greater music density. The live and energy of the music are taking up to the next level. The front tube is an RCA 866A, the rear a 1616. Think I'll go back to 2 x 866As, just a preferable sound for me.

Swapping rectifiers in the past has given different qualities some I really liked. This STR104 elevates everything. Well worth the money IMHO, especially as some of the rarer rectis will be priced close to it

I don’t believe anyone answered the OP’s question. He asked whether it is safe to use a 3A rectifier in equipment where the mfr says not to use any rectifier drawing more than 2A. The fact that some people have used 3A rectifiers and prefer the sound doesn’t answer the question. Power transformers have max current ratings. Exceeding the max rating runs the risk of the transformer failing. If I owned the Allnic, I would heed the mfr warning and not use a 3A rectifier.

Frankly, I think Allnic should have used a more robust power transformer that could run a 3A rectifier safely. However, they chose not to for whatever reason and the result is owners run the risk of blowing the transformer whenever they try a 3A rectifier.

H-5000 DHT - the power supply may be different depending on the manufacturing date (?During 2012?), noted on the side of the chassis of the H-5000. An older power supply can be modified at the owner's expense. Please reach out to allnicaudio56@gmail.com regarding your specific power supply AND if necessary, options to update.
