Probably true, but the there should be little variation in users who have the same software installed..so all Pure Music customers using a Mac
should not have a huge variance in performance..what DAC they are using would have a bigger impact.

Provided that the Mac in use had equivalent CPU power and had allocated its resources identically. Those who run more programs (active or background processes) can run close to or over their limits. I did.

It seems that iTunes 11 has removed the "display duplicates" feature, unless it is buried somewhere. I would not have upgraded until they fixed that.

I finally got rid of my iPad. My no. 1 tip for iTunes:

- Start Menu, select "Control Panel"
- Navigate to "Programs and features"
- Click on iTunes, then click "uninstall".

My computer is finally 100% Apple-free

Steve, at times this place feels like the Apple fanboy club. Everywhere you look there is a gushing thread about how fabulificent and splendiferous Apple is. At least I can say that I own Apple products, so I know what it's like to own an iOS device.

I do acknowledge that my above post (made in jest) was not necessary, so i'll stick to the facts from now on Sorry if you were offended.

Now, back on topic. When is iTunes going to support FLAC? Also, has iTunes finally removed the restriction that only allows your iPod to be sync'ed to three computers?

I suspect never. Apple has had a long history of sticking to formats it chooses and nothing else. On Windows for example, WMA libraries are standard. Yet iTunes would re-encode WMA files into AAC instead of playing them as is (double lossy compression is not a good idea).

The second reason, and one that is shared by Microsoft and some other major corporations is licensing. Just because someone wrote a new codec on their own, it doesn't mean it is free of existing patents. No one stands behind FLAC today. If a lawsuit happens, you are on your own paying damages. We have seen how nasty patent suits can be. 5% of the retail costs of every iOS device is huge sums of money.

That's nice. There are a couple of third party utilities that will do it for $13-15 smackaroonies, but it is convenient to have it in the program without obsolescence.

iTunes has become bloatware ... we need a third party small, efficient, bit perfect audio player to come along. Preferably open source.
