Analog Magik

Can you post the plot?
Can you try the cartridge on another turntable? Or other cartridge ? I have a 30usd TT to try out stuff, and a AT95E to put on the main TT to troubleshoot things. It has helped me to se if it is a TT or cartridge problem

That’s my next step. Actually, next steps. First a cart swap on the current arm, then an arm swap. The only question is whether to swap in my AT-VM95SH or my Denon 103R in its aluminum body? For purposes of testing the weird IMD number for Vibration, would a low compliance cart be better?

I think the AT will be more representative and
best to use, but maybe The Shiabata is more sensitive to set up . if you want to you can share a recording of the problem track with me on pm and ai can analyse it,using my alternative script.
Is it only the Vibration track that has very high IMD?

Looking at the pink noise spectrum load track can reveal arm resonance, I use Adobe Audition or REW to plot the response, any peaks or dips below 500hz are likely an arm problem.

I believe in an earlier post, you said that the AM V2 pink noise track was quite good. Should I use that one? I can do a capture in REW.

yes AM V2 pink noise is very good, resonance shows up at bumps or peaks

I show how to do it here

Some obvious resonance here , from post 2 above. I do not think your high IMD must be caused by a resonance…

Hmm, I’ll have to find a language translator that will work.

Got it! Good old Google Chrome.

I looked at this originally on my iPhone. Safari is years behind in things like language translation!

Okay. Here's what I got in REW using your recommended method from the provided link.

And this is the kind of ridiculousness I'm seeing in AM (in this case, v2) for Vibration. It almost seems like something is set up incorrectly in either the sound capture device or Windows Sound Settings, but I've checked both so many times my head is spinning! I've even tried two other sound capture devices!

I get that if I stop/start too early. Numbers reset if I stop and start into the track.
Your level is very high maybe clipping?

I lowered the recording level and made sure to hit Start before track start. Doesn't seem to help. What does the Pink Noise capture in Post #669 tell you?

You have a higher noise floor than me.. but not at high as 135%!! your side band is in your first plot -30db or -3.2% IMD .. I use V1 software and V1 records, seems like the software is missing the 500hz peak,

You probably used the RTA window, does not show as much details-but seem OK, use this IMPORT method it is more revealing.. and use attached calibration file to make plot flat

It's either my v2 record or the software. With the v1 record and the v1 software I'm getting 5.4%

It's my v2 software. If I use the v1 record with the v2 software I get the same 135% for Vibration.

Your cal file does some weird stuff, but here it is.

Ah, I see what I did wrong. Attached is the correctly compensated curve (both channels). Second one is zoomed in a bit vertically.

I emailed Richard Mak about the v2 oddness. I’ll let you know what he says.

But still, some of what started all this was seeing no distortion number changes for changing of VTA. NONE. ZERO (at least to the first decimal place). And this is with v1 or v2.

Which cartridge are you measuring Tony?
