Looks fantastic! Congratulations! How does it compare with your other turntable?
I finally got a chance to compare both tables, with the same are (SME 3012R) and the same cartridge (VDH XWG Stradivarius.) I set up both arms so I could swap the cartridge in 5 seconds. Both arms ran through the MC input of the Lamm LP2.1.

the Garrard beat the Ascona in every aspect, there was not an area of performance where the Ascona was better. What surprised me was that Garrard really excelled in definition and detail. I would have expected it to excel in PRAT, bass and drive but not definition as well. We listened to jazz, rock and classical.

This weekend I sold the Ascona to a new and very happy owner.

Jeff, that table is a beast. It has a “take no prisoner” kind of look. Having heard your system, I have an impression of your taste, and I bet this table sounds fantastic. I like the arm and cartridge choices.
Thanks Peter. I'm very happy with the build, shout out to Peter Noerbaek, the man that made this awesome plinth.

It's really impressive this idler is excelling at classical, I'm very envious. I've worked hard to get my rim drive to be sufficiently quiet and neutral to be as good on Ravel as well as Rush...haven't quite got there yet.

That's impressive. So the rebuild got rid of the midbass bump and added detail? Wow?

The one modded 401 that I heard a decade ago, I seem to remember it being less coloured than the 301s I'd heard up to that point.

There are always other variables...but some things seem very consistent, whatever the system. Linn LP12s always do the mid bass hump PRaT thing. 301s share that similar euphonic trait. The 401 that I heard and had at home for 6 weeks didn't.
