Lukasz Has Done It Again

Just a quick update. After stalling out at our local DHL facility for 3 days (they were apparently loathe to deliver it given the weight lol o_O ), Aphrodite has arrived.

Everything looks gorgeous so far. It really is a beast (maybe 160 pounds in the flight case). Horizon flight case same width and depth but height of Aphrodite's 2 or 3 inches more. Definitely going to be a two person job here, at least for me, to get it upstairs and onto top of rack. Hope to get it up and running this weekend!

Thank you Fred, Lukasz and the team and for coordinating the delivery! Couple pics....

and, wow, they were not kidding around with this remote. About the size of a iPhone max and a bit heavier, seriously solid. Hope some other manufacturers take note (not necessarily the size but the build quality)!....Aphrodite tubes.jpgAphrodite remote.jpg

You are most welcome!

So glad it finally made it in seemingly great shape! Yes, it's true that this is a very heavy piece, but those straps make moving it a MUCH easier job. Definitely take advantage of them!

Congrats and look forward to your feedback.

Best,

Fred A.

yikes, should have mentioned as it sure seems sujet du jour, i have never received accommodation pricing or even a discount for any lampizator dac i have purchased. only their public trade in program. simply, thus far, i just love what lampizator delivers and will share what i hear.

I hired two muscle men. Took them 5 minutes to get it from the case downstairs to the top of my rack Worth the money . Those red lifters made it an easy transport

This remote is our pride. It is large in the same fashion as cigar ashtrays or lighters - so they stay put and never go missing. We mill the body from a single slab of metal and each button is individually milled as well. Then the metal is glass blasted and ceramic coated for the hundred years durability. Guns are made in the same process. The pcb is made by us and then firmware is programmed , mirroring that of Aphrodite internal. We add easy to buy and easy to change aa batteries that will last 5 years. And the unique feature is the two finger operation. You cant accodentaly do anything because you need a purposeful dual press to activate a function.
For a preamp we wouldnt make such a „brick” but in this particular case you use the remote 100x less frequently than in a volume control scenario.

That is great build quality!

Hi,
Is there a manual or website where I can read about the different settings available on the remote control?

breathing a sigh of relief here. guys did great job moving things around….IMG_7194.jpegIMG_7196.jpegIMG_7195.jpeg

The Aphrodite Owner’s Manual
I just
just the first page of the Aphrodite owner’s manual. Don’t worry that’s all you really need to get your Aphrodite up and running and your excited fingers carefully popping in the tubes, and you’ll soon have music flowing into your room.

If you’re curious at all about the inner workings of your new toy and need to occupy your time waiting . . . . then I’d advise all Aphrodite owners to read the manual hopefully before your DAC arrives. It’s very well written and explains in detail but not in a complicated way all the functions of the Aphrodite. It’s very obvious plenty of time was spent detailing every aspect of how the Aphrodite works and how the many decisions made while designing the DAC were resolved.

If nothing else reading it will tempt you to call Fred (or your local Lampi dealer) and ask them, “When is my Aphrodite arriving?”.

My Aphrodite arrived on Monday, but was left on my driveway (thanks DHL)! Fred came by yesterday to help get this beast into my house and get it set up. First impressions besides its weight are it looks attractive and elegant. Even at first turn on it sounded very good, but way inferior to what I am hearing less than 24 hours later. I was very impressed with my Horizon 360, BUT as others have said, this is a whole new level that most of us probably were not aware existed.

During my 65 years in high end audio and MANY different components, this piece is truly in its own class. While I am sure it still has a way to go on the break-in front, I would be thrilled if this was the best it will be, but have in good authority from both Lukasz and Steve Williams, it will probably take at least several weeks for it to truly start to stabilize. My system is at its thus far pinnacle. Who knows where it is going? It certainly compliments my system, more than any previous system change (100’s over the years) and in my opinion betters anything I have heard at any of the many high end shows that I have attended.

Other than its physical size and beauty, the first thing I noticed and keep watching as it changes and improves with every time I listen, is the midrange with the bass in close pursuit. There is no way I could go back to the H360, as good as it is. Let me start with the sound stage. In the past sound stage has been described at its best as “way beyond the speakers”. The Aphrodite’s sound stage fills all aspects of my listening room, almost like a liquid adjusting to a strange shape vessel with absolutely no voids any where.

The next thing I hear and SEE, yes I visually see it, which is what happens with the best of very high end systems. My system is quite simple, but extremely high quality and very well set up. I have VSA Ultra 7’s with 2 VSA 12” Shockwaves, which Damon Von Schweikert spent close to 8 hours tuning out all of the room’s standing waves.

When I listen now, it is truly almost impossible to compare to the system with the H360. What I see in addition to the musicians is an electron microscope version of the music (I know I am mixing mediums) insuring the best resolution of all of the music’s components. It is SO smooth and enveloping and makes me realize all of my previous system iterations and audio show best sounding systems cannot compare sonically. If I was not hearing it at 24 hours, I would not believe it is possible.

Said another way, it is the best visual image I have ever seen or heard any where!! I don’t use the word blessed very often, BUT I am already blessed to have the Aphrodite in my system. According to Fred from Lampizator NA, my unit is #7 and in my opinion the best DAC unparalleled. The improvement is continuous and essentially impossible to describe because it is like it came from outer space I am not theatrical, but this unit is that good. I am still trying to determine the best words to describe what I am hearing and yes, seeing.

I am going to stop here because I am drooling on my computer and have no doubt that whatever I write it will be superseded by the end of the day. This piece is a must for anyone who can afford it, but it also means there will a number of H360’s on the used market at good prices. Thanks for reading this post, but I needed to spread the word.

Congrats Russ! I knew in less than 5 minutes of listening at CAF that the Aphrodite was on another level. The Horizon is an amazing DAC but as you stated with the Aphrodite, it's like you can "see" music too.

Happy listening!

Aphrodites - @Steve Williams, @hifirabbit, @Whbgarrett, @Mobiusman,
If you have a minute, can you share which server you use and which digital input you are using (usb, xdmi, i2s, etc) and any comparison findings?
Also if you are finding certain inputs need longer break in.
Thank you!

If I can throw my 2c - there can not possibly be any difference in break in time between the various inputs. 99% of the circuit is common for all inputs anyway. The digital engine is known to stabilize on the plateau after 7 days, the tube board about 3 days, the tubes - depend on type and material used and their respective age. Anyhow - after 7 days it is over.

The Aphrodite really sounding wonderful after 4 to 5 days of heavy use.
I am mainly using the Taiko Olympus IO XDMI input.
The Ethernet input into the Squeeze box- Roon endpoint also sounds amazing.
I would like more information on the modulation and filters.
Anyone has a favorite setting combo yet?

I am using Taiko Olympus and Olympus I/O via XDMI. Topically, I tried to use USB out for the first time ever yesterday evening, but could not get a signal. Will reach out to @Neon today for counsel.

I use XDMI out from Olympus/IO but USB with Aphrodite is also a winner. We did an A/BA test at the event last month and USB is excellent

Emile has hinted at a new board that outputs XDMI via I2S and if so that would allow many more DAC makers with I2S inputs to avail themselves on XDMI as well

Lukasz seems to like the idea of XDMI via I2S

As for filters and modulation I havent even had a desire to mess with them . As Lukasz stated it is all a matter of preference and no right answer. For my ears what I am hearing now gives me no reason to start changing as right now I am having too much fun listening
