From my perspective, and for the asking price, I think the risk of using a detergent solution with the distilled water is very much worth it. I think one can play it “safe” here and not use a load of alcohol in with the detergent, which arguably could destroy over time the seals etc.

There should be no risk of using the suggested detergent with the Humminguru. Only if the manufacturer says that it will void the warranty.

The KLA machine manufacturer says not to use any detergent - which among productized ultrasonics is a unique injunction. You can't buy the KLA machine anymore so, imo, the value of such a comparison is limited.

What I'm interested in wrt the Humminguru is how well does it hold up over time - say after 500 and 1000 records. Ultrasonic machines are consumables - the tank itself will wear out. Tanks can be built with different grades of stainless steel and some are more durable than others. What the Humminguru has going for it is very low cost.

I agree, the HG is probably worth the risk, although I would those who damage the unit or shorten its lifespan as a result are upfront and honest.

As for a comparison of the two with anything but distilled water, you won’t get that comparison from me!

I am 99% going to buy a 2nd Humminguru that will be distilled water only per Tima’s recommendation.

As such I will be able to provide some commentary about longevity and efficacy with both approaches.

100% agree with everything. I treat these as consumables now having had the more expensive investment of Audiodesk die on me. I am hoping that my strategy of buying the much much cheaper consumable pays out over time lol.

I will keep a tab on number of LPs cleaned FYI.

I have cleaned over 10,000 records with my KLAudio and it's in perfect condition and performance. I bought the KL because of the unreliable nature of the AudioDesk.

I can void the 1 year warranty and buy 15-20 new ones for the price of the KL
everybody in Norway uses the regular iso/destilled water, dish washer detergent and it works like a charm....so far

10,000, thats impressive, and a recyclable alu unit at that! unlike the HG plastic , now rated as a consumable that one day may end up in our Oceans!!!!!!!!

I get some of the Tergitol off ebay, you only need a couple of drops from each bottle per 1000ml of distilled water, it works really well mate and doesn't cost much. For my application I use it with IPA on my Project wet and dry cleaner. The guy also sells a bigger bottle version for £8 but in all honesty I have made 3 batches so far and the bottle has hardly been used.

I am using 2 Humming Guru, one for wash and the other rinse. I usually do 2 wash cycle (ie 10min total) with Tergitol added, and the rinse cycle is 5 min plus 10min blow dry.

I am a bit skeptic about the water filter, which looks just like a piece of hard sponge. As such, I am wondering if it could be better if I further pass the water through something like a regular paper coffee filter?

As I change to fresh water after every 5 LP or so, I am just looking for a quick and simple way to add some filtering.

An inexpensive method that can be used to filter/recycle cleaning fluid is to use a coffee filter. They are generally good for about 10-15 microns filtration which is not bad and a pour-over coffee maker such as Amazon.com: Melitta 640616 Coffee Maker, 52 oz, Glass Carafe : Home & Kitchen is inexpensive and large enough to filter the volume of the HG.

Yes, not sure if I have told you, right before taking my sabbatical, I have acquired a Rockport Sirius II, which was once owned by Mike Lavigne before he switched to the Sirius III. I have also got myself a JC Verdier La Platine just a couple of months ago. : )
