An African American's life in that time period was full of beatings, harassments and the occasional murder by the police. Many (including Miles) went to Europe to record, perform and live. Some of my favorite jazz albums are recorded in Europe, no surprise the music sounds more free.Miles Davis suffered a lot from police harassment and was even brutally beaten once by a cop in New York. Amazing he endured that and was still one of the greatest composers and musicians of the 20th century.

I have every Gordon album, one if my favorites. The last time I visited Paris I dragged the family to Montmartre to pay homage.According to Dexter Gordon's biography that's what drove him for Europe for over a decade. However, his drug addictions caused him some issues there as well.
Yes, he suffered plenty of abuse from the police in Philly too, as by the way, did Charlie Parker.Miles Davis suffered a lot from police harassment and was even brutally beaten once by a cop in New York. My big question is do I need this? I have the Cisco reissue that is referenced in the article. What is gained from the UHQR?
What is this “metalwork”... are you implying they’re not cutting new metal mothers? Seems like to create the flat profile of a UHQR you have to start with new laquers, etc? Am I ignorant of something?
I told myself I did not need this. I have the classic lp 33/45.
I am weak and have preordered, just because you never know, maybe the vinyl formulation is quieter and that’s worth it.
YesThese tapes are now over 60 years old. Do you think that the old tapes can have more detail and air than previous releases?
Yes
Based on that fact, the first reissue is the one to go for (when done right… for example classic records first run 180gr)
The originals get the ok from the artists when the mastering is done … so that one is authentic, all others are something else …. Shifting / boosting frequencies are not original … when you like that, go for CD and save a small fortune
I think, they have already milked Kind of Blue to death
Good to see you around these parts Christian.Aren’t there already too many reissues of KOB ? Wish Chad got a little more creative on this latest UHQR release. The amount of money people probably have spent on reissues of KOB would of gone a long way to buy both the original stereo and mono releases which are superior to the reissues.
I checked, Cristian snook in unnoticed Wednesday too, WELCOME BACK Cristian, we have missed you !Good to see you around these parts Christian.
You have a point on the number of re-issues, but why would people prefer to own versions that were partially cut at the wrong speed?Aren’t there already too many reissues of KOB ?
