Unfortunately we didn't as it was across the street at the Hyatt and just too much to see and hear at the Marriott. Those who did were quite impressed

I thought the Pink Floyd demo was much too loud and in your face, and the surround sound largely destroyed the front/back imaging! Anyone staying in that room too long may have experienced hearing damage - of course I believe the intent was to recreate a live rock concert.

To me, plain ole 2 channel stereo best recreates the live concert experience...not multi-channel surround.

I also liked the sound of the Playback Designs MPD-3 with native DSD files. The sound via the Evolution Acoustics was huge in room 1117.

Did Jonathan or Mike Spitz play the Louis Armstrong, St James Infirmary on 1/2" R2R

In all my years of listening this was about as close to live as I have ever heard. A most amazing demo coming from Jonathan's little MicroMini speakers which IMO remains the best deal around for book shelf speakers in this price range

I may be wrong, but compared to the 2008 RMAF, I believe the 2011 RMAF had a smaller number of rooms and was not as well attended. I remember the hallways being very crowded on Saturday at the 2008 event and the Hyatt having many more rooms. I'm sure the bad economy is to blame.

Somewhere here on the forum, it was mentioned that merely dropping a spoon onto a tile floor produces peak SPLs of over 130 dB. The issue is the SPL/duration (up to a certain SPL) for damage to occur.

I also enjoyed the Longs Peak demo with Vivid and Luxman gear; the Nordost room using Raidho C2's and Simaudio; and Evergreen E with Sony, Pass Labs, EMM, and Isomike native DSD files. The surround sound was actually pretty good in this room.

Interesting coincidence. Just 10 seconds or so before I clicked on this thread, I started playing Hugh Laurie's version of St. James Infirmary on his Let Them Talk album.

I wholly concur with your assessment, Steve. I would enjoy an A/B comparison of Jonathan's MicroMini and Magico's Q1.

I have the 45 rpm OOP re-issue by Classic Records on Clarity (Clear) Vinyl. I agree...Louis Lives again..at least in my sound chamber...playing this record.

Sadly, RTR will never be in my future...too little low gen source material available for me to justify owning a machine and all that entails...Vinyl will just have to do....

Exactly why the comparison would be intriguing. What if the MicroMini held its own in such a comparison?
