I was trying to dig a bit deeper, just wondering if you guys were already tweaking the firmware for ASM3142 yet?

Does tweaking of ASM3142 make sense with the proprietary Taiko USB card ante portas?

We do tweak the firmware, but on our upcoming USB card we did not end up using the ASM3142.

I got the TAS installed yesterday by Wilson in the Extreme. Instructions emailed were very straightforward and clear.
A preliminary and quick listening reveiled a very musical and natural presentation with an increased resolution. Thank You Wilson and entire Taiko Team.

I know this really isn't the right thread anymore but has the Evo or SGM 2015 with Evo upgrades got to the point where it can't get any better ? I know most of the software and hardware mentioned in previous posts are mostly relevant to the Extreme. So when the EVO gets the TAS software installed would that be the last stopping point for improvement and you can't go any further because of the hardware in the EVO ?

"DSD Buffer Slider: . . . (Note, if DoP is selected, the DSD slider will not be displayed , and the PCM buffer size will be used)

The recommeded setting is 8192"

So, if that is the case -- I use DoP -- is the recommended PCM buffer size still Adaptive-1 or should I set the PCM buffer to 8192?

Adaptive-1, DoP sends DSD in “PCM packets” so the transfer mode is PCM. But do try 4096 which seems generally preferred (for PCM) with our driver.

Beta lands in Florida

I spent a very pleasurable hour with Mike and his team at Sun Coast Audio and installed the Beta software with a MSB Select 2 connected over USB

Here is a cut and paste of Mike's observations


“The nice feature of the Taiko software is that with the push of a button from the app on your iPad, you can switch back and forth between Roon and the Taiko software. Switching to Roon, basically turns off “ExtremeDirect Player” and re-enables Roon Core. Switching back to ExtremeDirect Player is just as easy and disables Roon.

Now, in terms of functionality, this is a beta version and is still fairly rudimentary and simple in terms of sourcing your music. Functional, operational, stable, but basic (not “pretty” like Roon).

Right now, for the purposes of the test I stuck with QoBuz. Tidal integration had begun, but stopped when Tidal added new security requirements. In about two weeks, it should once again have Tidal.

We haven’t moved much content directly onto the Taiko Extreme from our NAS, but we are going to begin that process tonight.

I have been going back and forth all afternoon comparing the exact same tracks on QoBuz, switching back and forth each song between Roon and the Taiko software.

I was expecting similar things I’ve found switching between Roon and Aurender. Let’s just say, I was not disappointed.

With the Taiko software, there is such a greater sense of intimacy and quietness. Comparing piano recordings was revolutionary, literally like comparing different DAC’s or maybe even more profound. Vocals with the Taiko software have such a haunting realism, you can’t help but close your eyes and melt away into the moment. This is not hyperbole, this is the real deal. It was plain as day the level of noise and crap going on with Roon compared with the Taiko software. You could hear it plain as day.

I’m sure the functionality of the Taiko software will come over time, but for now, with the focus solely on “sound first”, removing noisy roon from the Taiko had such a dramatic audible impact.

Their software allows their hardware to reach its full potential, sonically speaking.

A home run sonically, with promises of great things to come functionally.

My music listening time was cut short by a wind storm that came up this afternoon and has intensified this evening. I generally turn off non-essential electronics when I see the lights start to flicker because power outages often follow.

What I can say from the couple of hours I spent listening to music is that the TAS beta sounds lovely. eD, DoP on, PCM buffer set to 4096 (which gives 8192 for DSD). Everything I tried works and the additional features are very nice. Lyrics and artist info are perfectly readable on my iPhone X:



I think the beta is another significant step forward for TAS and Taiko -- the app is stable and functional, the development team are incorporating more functionality, and most importantly, the sound quality is stellar.

I look forward to more musical enjoyment when the current wind blows itself out. . .

I know that SQ is the #1 priority right now but I was wondering if spotify connect & tidal connect would make it to TAS? I only ask because I sometimes like to find new music via spotify as I like their algorithm for suggesting new music.

Tidal was there, but Tidal changed their authentication mechanism literally the same day as we started to rollout the BETA, it will be back later. Spotify, possibly yes, but later on.
