Impressive kid.

What I love is the extraordinary musical feeling that he brings to the table in this instrumental of Purple Rain:

This still moves me and blows me away every time. Unbelievable music making, regardless of his age.

I can't stop coming back to this performance.

Impressive, marty, thank you!

Prodigies always have the chops....their biggest challenge is finding their own voice as their career progresses.

Sure, in general that's the case, but this guy doesn't impress me primarily with his technical abilities, but with his musicality.

His rendition of Purple Rain moves me far more than this one by Journey guitarist Neal Schon, even though it's certainly impressive:

I also think that there's a long arch to Farrant's playing of the song that gives the music a feeling of inexorability in its build-up and expression.

Actually, listening to the Neal Schon version again I am starting to like it a lot in its own right.

Life is beautiful with all the great music to listen to. Here's to 2021!

My comment wasn't intended to be directed at this particular kid - it was just a general comment. Agreed in that he seems to be developing a voice at an early age and not just emulating others. At a similar age Derek Trucks was also developing his own voice. It will be fun watching this kid's career progress.
