We are thinking about getting a new flatscreen TV for a friend's apartment. I am thinking something in a 55 to 60 inch range.

I, personally, I know nothing about TVs and I don't follow video stuff at all.

The last thing I knew was that the Sony Trinitron XBR was a good TV.

What is a standard recommendation for a good quality and good value flatscreen TV these days?

Extra points if you come up with a Black Friday sale idea!

Thank you!

Thank you very much!

Ron,

We've owned Sony TVs all our lives - the only brand we purchased.

However, we bought a new Sony 75" TV from Best Buy just before Thanksgiving last year. It went bad in less than 6 months. Sony wouldn't warranty it claiming that due to COVID restrictions they couldn't drop off TV on our front porch. Amazingly they kept dropping them off in stores to sell them though. Even as late as last week they were using the same excuse.

I know we won't be purchasing any more Sonys. Let us know what you purchase. We're in the market for a new one too. Looking at LG right now.

I have a sony sxrd1 60'' you can have if you help me get it out of the basement. It's been repaired and doesn't do the green screen most were afflicted with, the only downside is it's 20'' deep.

There seems to be a consensus that Vizio and LG are the budget champs.

Thank you for the thought, but we need a flat screen.

Doesn't LG actually make most of the flat screens anyway?
Yes, including Sonys as I was told when I bought mine. Samsung the other big manufacturers.
