LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

That is one thing nice about the Atlantic TRP- its more affordable to tube roll it vs the Lampi that uses DHT tubes..
Anyone here tried using KT88 tubes on the TRP dac ?

als0- if the tubes are NOT matched pair, does it cause a sound imbalance where one channel is not as strong sounding as the other ??
kt66 soundly beat the kt88.

Mainly because its dirt cheap and readily available everywhere for under $15.00. I do prefer it to the others though. My headphones tend to the warm side of things, and with solid wood cups they tend to have some lingering decay which I do not like. The KT77s and Potato masher offer me a tight, clean sound that I like with my headphone set-up.
Im guessing by the comments made by others that the ACME 274b would improve upon these aspects?

I would NOT guarantee that.

I do agree it is a psychological barrier. It is so cheap it can't be any good, right?

It's only so cheap because of mass over production for some military contract. It's a mil spec tube for peanuts.

I pretty much always revert to it. I haven't tried any recti I find better overall. It just gives the best clarity I've heard with the least colouration.

That said there are guys on here that have tried way more rectifiers than me.

It's hard to admit it to yourself if you have dumped £400 on something that isn't as good.

But again some systems it night not appear to give the best results even if technically it is.

Let me again add up to the confusion - you also have 5R4WGB option. Same tube but military selected version with tighter spec. Even packed differently then A version. I have both so....happy playing guys :p

To be clear the 5R4WGA and B variants are BOTH JAN tubes (Joint Army and Navy) i.e. both mil spec tubes.

To be more clear they are as you said, but being B variant top notch selected ones...

Apparently, Psvane makes 3 different 274B tubes.
- the standard Acme Supreme at US$295 but also a sorted and tested top 10%, best of the best version @ $345
- a WE274B type/replica at US$219
- a 274B-T11 with a crystallized carbon on the glass at US$185

I went with the Acme Supreme top 10% to ensure that I got at least what @Golum heard when he and others did their testing. I’ll have to agree it sounds better every day, still breaking in.

Question — has anyone tried out the other two versions? It would be interesting if they are as good as the Supreme. If it was the carbon version, that would almost make it a no-brainer bargain for others entering the LampizatOr scene.

Hope all have a great 2020! cheers
Ed
I own a pair of the we 275 and two real nos ones too. They sound a bit like the nos.i also have thr we 300b too. One thing I’ll say the tubes need burn In like 30 hours or more and they don’t go bad fasting some others do.

Yup. Which means I think if you're lucky the A variant will be as good. It just hasn't be subjected to super rigorous testing.

Mine measure bang on spec.

KR and EML versions would get rejected. There's no way they'd meet the checks or other specifications. That''s trying to apply the same criterion to their 5U4G, since they aren't mad enough to try and replicate these JAN tubes to the letter. Or reject entire batches.

Thank US military budgets for the privilege of owning something absolutely outstanding.

I do have a Brimar but I don't know the exact type (Norman @wisnon would know) a Chatham Potatoe Masher that I quite like but the ACME 274b is in another league above those two. Much more transparent and open and airier sounding. The Raytheon JRK60 I don't know but after the Chatham is your favorite of those, I gues that doesn't matter too much, then.
Hi Christoph, need some help.....does one need an adaptor to use the Psvane Acme 274b in the lampi as it has a 8 pin socket?

Here is a pic of a 4 pin TJ 274B. It works fine. You can't put it in the wrong way as the central guide pin makes it impossible. Unless you use a hammer:D.

Many Thanks for educating me! Really appreciate. I didn’t realise I could use a 4 pin tube in a 8 pin socket.
