Do we have a home studio recording forum? I did not see one.

If I want to try recording a singer sometime at home with the Studer (of which I hope to be able to take delivery eventually) is the Neumann U67 the right audiophile microphone to get?
What is your recording application for this mic beyond the studio ? Personally, if you want to do location recording of live music I would look at a stereo schoeps set up. Pavarotti sang into schoeps mics. http://www.schoeps.de/en/home
Or the very versatile (selectable polar patterns) and extremely low self-noise AKG C 414 XLS or XLII MATCHED PAIR. The XLS has a more linear frequency response. An excellent all-rounder.

Ron,
You have opened a can or words that is very hard to answer succinctly because depending on your perspective, there may be no correct answer! To qualify that I would first mention that recording gurus are just as crazy, if not crazier, than audiophiles. It's as if you asked an audiophile, "what is the best speaker"? The best answer to both is probably, "it depends". My view is that recording engineers consider microphones as a tool that might be best only in the context of a specific task or application. No question, you picked a hell of a mic that is long discontinued and is priced in the stratosphere if you can find one in great condition (>10K). Do you really want a used tube microphone? Do you really need a 10K mic? The mic and mixing preamps you use will be just as important to the final recording and in fact may matter more. Do you want the convenience of a mic with a modern transformer design? The modern studio workhorse Neumann U87 is pretty darned good and cost about 3K. But the best advice is to really go to the sites where other recording hobbyists can give you far more information and guidance such as Gearsluts. I also like Steve Hoffman's site. Sounds like a fun project!

The Gordon is a microphone preamplifier system. The Grace Design m905 is a monitor controller that incorporates a DAC
and functions as a preamp in a conventional stereo rig.
