BY making two rows of tubes I managed to make a circuit that cancels out the tube individual character ( also perceived as musical quality) and the tubes provide more of a straight wire with gain. Very neutral and pure. This allows the music to sound like the master tape without the tube being in your way.
Why use a tube then. Arn't there other devices that have very low losses that created gain. Like a SUT?

indeed it sounds like we are taking the tube away and listening to the machine . ie replacing a tube with a transistor in a way . the desirable harmonics are gone?

By the way, talking about the tubes. Chinese manufacturers made a huge, simply gigantic progress in the tube quality and also they make high priced luxury models like the one I chose - the legendary ACME series. It is the porsche of tubes. And I heard all new tubes in existence.
Also their reliability is now number one in the market. Still some NOS will sound sweeter.
Have you ever investigated KT88? I have tried some Chinese ones. They seem to be sweet and lush. Musical. But they do like to fail. I would not call them reliable at all. Think Shuguang and Psvane.

Some of the Russian ones have more punch and sense of power. Less sparkle and harmonics. They can last a long time. They can fail too.

Then there is the JJ. Bullet proof and for the most part, noting to fault. Accept that they are not that engaging to listen too.

Is the harmonic a pleasing distortion?

better be pleasing else i would get rid of it too haha ! isnt the whole point of tubes to get some distortion into the system? chinese made distortion vs american vs british distortions - everyone distorts differently.

tbh the chinese are making great strides in their society and tech ...the problem though is that there is a bit of a lack of soul in whats there though . - be it their j 20 fighter or the byd cars . Its a good product no doubt....just lacks soul. A superficial skin might be a good way to put it.

Music being a soulful thing - i cant imagine chinese tubes being of that nature. same as russian tubes - they are ok but they too lack soul in their renditions.

if you dont like what i say here just ignore!

What I’m hearing is pretty friggin’ good.

But wait a minute. Steve is listening to the Czech tubes, the only pentodes in the world made by hand, and 10x more expensive than machine made tubes. His ACME are only in anode supply current source

" the Chinese are making great strides in their society and tech" Perhaps technical advances. Societal IMO they have a long way to go...

Looks like my other post in reply to this got pulled I disagree Lukasz. How good a tube is can be reflected by the price set by the users in an open market not the manufacturer of tubes.

The price set by users in an open market would be for used, not new, tubes.
Exactly.... So how do we know a new tube is good just on the basis of what a manufacturer states the selling price is?

I have to say that after 3 days with the stock tubes Lukasz supplied my desire to spend my time and money on NOS tubes is truly waning. It’s now nothing more than a bit of curiosity. I’ve missed dinner with my wife the last 2 nights as I’m glued to my seat bi haven’t even messed with any of the fin stuff in the remote. For me it’s always about the sound and I’ve just never heard anything like this. I’m just trying wrap my head around what I’m hearing A ig facile in all of this I’m convinced as well is being able to use my preamp. Previously my sweet spot with the H and H360 with the Lampi gain at 63 I was at the 5-6 detente position. These past few days I’m now between 12-14. I feel this is a huge plus for me

Potentially depends on which version of the H 360 is being used. If memory serves, later versions have lower output and will be closer to the new DAC.

fear not. You’re going to love it.

Different preamps with 32 wpc amp. Totally different beast.
