I am learning. Next step would be to get something with a horn loaded midrangeWow the holy grail how did you manage to land such a rarity
But there are many tube amplifiers in the world that are worse than a Shinai ampThis link is very good and should tell you what you need to know...Mephisto need not apply to the job of driving these speakers. They even didn't think the Shinai is very good compared to some modest tube amps. I have heard Shinai and it is quite good sounding for a SS amp, so if you really don't want tubes then get a Grandinote amp. It won't unleash, IMO and the article's opinion you linked, all that the 8XL can do but it still is a very nice sounding SS amp.
No wonder, filter cables limit the bandwidthMephisto has no global negative feedback, so it is not connected to the ‘damping factor’? BTW I just switched from Transparent to some cheap Belden speaker cables, and I hear more bite and liveliness in the presentation![]()
How much is not very expensive?Do you guys have a list of good tube amps to try with the Grandinote speakers? Preferably not very expensiveAlso, what are the chances of an amp like Lamm or Mastersound to match well with CHP L1 line stage?
Aries Cerat Genus is at the top of that range but worth every penny…Up to 20 000 USD?
Border Patrol (you had it), one of the best, ask your friend Dimitry, he knows very well this combination.Do you guys have a list of good tube amps to try with the Grandinote speakers? Sorry, no more Border Patrol for me. I would be prefer something with more meat on the bones sound wise, and something more modern.Border Patrol (you had it), one of the best, ask your friend Dimitry, he knows very well this combination.

With two power supplies? What tubesIt does in my experience, I used it with Coincident speakers. Anyway, I want something different.
Give it a go! Curious to know what you think. The dealer has Grandinote Supremo integrated amp for audition. It should be quite good as it’s a top of the range integrated in the Grandinote line, but XLR inputs only???
Don't forget that your old friend Dimitri is also a Grandinote dealer, the best and liveliest sound is with the Border Patrol. The dealer has Grandinote Supremo integrated amp for audition. It should be quite good as it’s a top of the range integrated in the Grandinote line, but XLR inputs only???
If you're looking to stick with a SS amp but still want to capture the warmth and tonal balance of tube amps, the SIT4 could be a great option. It offers a more musical presentation compared to Grandinote’s push-pull design, providing a more engaging, purer, and more organic sound. If I were in your position with that efficiency, I wouldn’t trade the benefits of single-ended designs for the extra power (which isn’t really needed) offered by push-pull amplifiers. However, it’s worth noting that Grandinote amps are considered some of the best push-pull SS designs available. The dealer has Grandinote Supremo integrated amp for audition. The need for significant toe-in when using the Gryphon amplifier with the Grandinote Mach speakers might indicate a mismatch between the amplifier's characteristics and the speakers' design. High-sensitivity speakers like the Mach 8 XL are more sensitive to the amplifier's traits. If the amplifier has high feedback, is too sterile, or lacks warmth for that efficiency, the speakers may require more toe-in to focus the soundstage and enhance the perception of energy and engagement. The speakers definitely need more toe-in in order to come to life. The tonality of the presentation is just beautiful. I am beginning to like them very much even with Mephisto![]()
So you think a horn loaded tweeter does not need a significant toe-in?The need for significant toe-in when using the Gryphon amplifier with the Grandinote Mach speakers might indicate a mismatch between the amplifier's characteristics and the speakers' design. Yes, the design of the Grandinote Mach 8 XL is such that it typically does not require significant toe-in adjustments. The speakers are engineered to produce a natural and open sound signature, and in most setups, they deliver a wide and precise sound without needing extreme toe-in. The Grandinote designer has mentioned that these speakers are built to provide clarity and warmth while maintaining a natural sound, making them less dependent on heavy toe-in for optimization. So you think a horn loaded tweeter does not need a significant toe-in?
They imaged great in Munich with essentially no toe-in. Really curious to hear your thoughts on the Genus. Do you know if it’s an 813 or 845 output tube version? So you think a horn loaded tweeter does not need a significant toe-in?
