I am very blessed in that not only is my wife smart, beautiful and a wonderful mother… she also loves our system!

She typically gets out of bed first and after making a cup of coffee she almost always turns on some music. I love that.

Many nights she will say she just wants to spend time sitting close and listening.

She always listens to changes in the system and has a great ear for changes/improvements. She’s genuinely interested which I believe is pretty rare.

Who else has a wife that appreciates the insane hobby we share?

I'm too listening selfish to want my wife hanging around the system too much, anyway, but she often wades into the middle of it with some honydoo, like an audio gremlin.

My wife doesn't want to understand the components I have put together and has trouble turning the system on without me and is too intimidated to even get close to the turntable, but she enjoys sitting down and listening to records with me for many hours every week. She does agree our system sounds amazing.

My wife didn't like the Roon interface at first, but now she makes playlists and searches for music she might have heard elsewhere and wants to check out. In those cases, she will choose high-resolution if available (once I demonstrated the difference in SQ). I must admit that when she chooses the music and cranks up the volume it gives me great pleasure. Especially, if she dances along.

She will often be reading in another room while I listen and yet often has interesting observations about the music and often correctly identifies the musician, usually referring to their first name (as in: Is that Chet?). Yes, OK, I think that is very cute.

She does not like discordant music. Roon has a "ban" category that can be applied to a song, album or artist. She uses the more regal request of "banishing" the music. When Roon Radio hallucinates, it can choose some very strange stuff.

As for gear, she couldn't care less. But since the listening room is the living room, has strong opinions about the aesthetics. Luckily, we agree 100% in this area.

My wife and I spend a lot of time in our HT. We also entertain a fair bit. My wife doesn't know how to work the theatre well or what the components are but she is coming along. She does appreciate the good quality sound in there as well as most all of our guest do. She host girls night every once in while.

My wife went to all the shows with me, has her OWN system (Cambridge/Parasound/Red Maggies) and likes to ride motorcycles! She even goes to the AMG Driving Academy and races around the track.
For the icing on the cake..... Insisted that she put a stripper pole up so she could practice!! Do I win???

is the pole in the recording studio? And do you use it to tune the room acoustics?

I like to have company lsitening to music - in my case, music listening can be active and interactive

Yes, it is rare. Even more so considering that my wife has excellent hearing, identifying FR limitations, compromised sound, and compression immediately. Likewise with changes in the system -- she identifies and describes the change immediately. BUT, she is not interested in doing so.
Unlike my mother in law, who loves to listen critically to components and make comparisons. She also likes the music. Unfortunately she leaves in another continent!

you didn't. Some families like to go on vacation together or bowl together or watch movies together. Oh, and listen to music together. The last one was how I first appreciated music and the curious setup that produced the sound. Thanks, Dad.

Music was my hobby all my life.I never had a TV in my living room but the best Hifi system I could afford, over 1.000 LPs and CDs were somehow growing by themselves. That's how how my wife got me in 1989. The LPs and 1000s of CDs have been replaced by a digital player (Aurender) and I don't have to ask my bank anymore when I want to buy some new audio hardware. Besides that, everything is still the same. No TV, most evenings reading, talking and listening to music. My wife does not care about high end and is rather amused about my efforts to make it sound "right".

Not having a dedicated hifi room or a man's cave means hifi must look nice in the eyes of the wife and room alterations (acoustic treatments) are a no-go. But I very much prefer it the way it is.

My wife use to like it and be proud. Once it became more an obsession, she fell out. She turns on her laptop now. Even with some Bose and a Fosi streaming amp, she doesn't want to be bothered by a stereo.

I believe that many women can more easily hear around the limitations of a setup to connect with the music than can men. Perhaps it is the same circuitry that allows some women to hear two simultaneous conversations. When my wife does that, it freaks me out a bit.
