Options for dual subwoofers on hardwood floor

I don't want to double post but have a more specific question for my two subwoofers on hardwood floors. Currently I use Herbie's X-Large Fat Dot's under my subs. I use one as an end table and would like to raise it up a bit. The spikes would help. I may try placing my second subwoofer on the opposite end of my couch. Even if I keep the second sub I have been using as a center channel stand on the front wall between my center channel and Front Right main speaker, I might want to install the speaker spikes that came with my Focal Diablo Speaker stands that I am not using. I am using StackAudio Auvo 70's on the Diablo FL/FR mains.

I get some sub vibration on my hardwood floors that are over a crawl space, but minor at worst. My primary 2-channel source is a turntable. What are the thoughts of using the unused Focal stand spikes on the subs? Are there better options? If nothing else, I like raising the level for better end table use. The Auva 70 feet with felt bottoms allow me to move the mains, as I often want to, but I rarely move the subs. I would use the magnetic pucks under the spikes that may slide OK on the oak floor for the rare times I want to move them for cleaning.

Thanks.

I would highly advise against spikes as in my experience they have a detrimental effect on sound of any speakers.

The dots you have are a much better way to go. Based on the same approach I would recommend trying products from Isoacoustics.

They have the Aperta sub stands and they have Gaia’s which can screw in. I use both on my subs in my two rooms and they make a big impact to the quality of the sound and very good at isolating from the floor and room.

Hope that helps.

Having owned subs for 20+ consecutive years, my favorite low-cost solution is the Auralex Sub-Dude. https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/studio-m...8PzMPBAL8KiGCarMqyaEdxhKI5FRYSZBGw4imwQBE73J0

If you are willing to spend more, you can try the Stillpoints Ultra 5s. Discrete, nearly invisible depending on where you place them underneath your sub. And they definitely eliminated the reaction with the wooden floorboards in our old home which used to bother our neighbors. But dead silent for them after the Stillpoints went underneath.

The ultimate was a custom solution by Z:Axis Audio who is a member here, which is what we use today.

you might want to give Norm Varney a shout and try some EVP's or EVP planks

I preferred and purchased StackAudio Auva 70's for my Focal Diablo's over GAIA II's. I would go that route again if going to isolation feet since I preferred the simple look, stability, and the felt on the bottom allowing easier moving when wanting to clean our hardwood floors. Thanks.

I installed StackAudio Auva 70 feet on my two subwoofers today to match the Diablo stands. I move the speakers around for cleaning and while the monitors are out in the room most of the time, I like to move them closer to the wall when having a large group over to get them out of the way and the felt pads on the bottoms makes it much easier and protects the floors from an inadvertent slip of a spike off the base or cup. Bonus if it improves the sound.

How much does each of your subs weigh?

I use Iso-Acoustics ISO-200 isolation stands under my subs.
Works great. No vibration whatsoever. No harm to the floor.

Each of my subs weighs 68 pounds, which is just under the 75 pound recommended limit for these stands.

Getting the subs off the floor also helps with the sound. (I have lots of leftover spikes.)

Just a side note and not intending to sidetrack - I use the Stack Audio Auva 100s with my Daedalus Audio Argos V2 floor-standers and very please with the SQ benefits, as well as, the ease of movement as you noted. I have a couple of sets of Stack equipment isolators as well. I never felt that the IsoAcoustic isolators had any SQ benefit when I used a few sets of them. Anyway, I hope the 70s satisfy your listening.

Not sure if you are recommending I discard what I already bought and use IsoAcoustics? Glad you like them but they were never something that interested me. My subs weigh in at about 75 pounds but that wasn't my reason. I researched Gaia II's, didn't like the looks, they aren't as stable as the Auva 70's, and they stick to the floor. Thanks.

Nope, not at all. Just pointing out an alternative to spikes.

The Auva 70 discs look awesome.

Yes, you are exactly right: the ISO-acoustics definitely STICK to the floor.

Is there a way to use the Auva when the subwoofer has no threaded inserts?
REL 31 here, footers ought to be higher than the REL‘s feet of 7cm.
Cheers, Ulrich

For My DIY subwoofers I needed to install threaded inserts. Just be sure to drill the pilot hole as straight as possible. M8 1.25 is recommended

Ummm … no. I will rather not drill my RELs.
Might glue a thick, threaded steel plate on the REL.

I would look to the proper IsoAcoustics footers. They worked well under a my main speakers to eliminate low frequency transfer into my floor.

You do not have to drill, just put your REL’s on footers for heavy equipment.
I am using Pro Audio Bono 80 SN footers for the front and a full metal brass model for the back, just because I had the latter on hand.
It seems to me that is better than without footers, but the difference is not huge.

I think you've got a fantastic set up! As soon as I heard the Trio G3 in late 2022, I immediately came back here to say it was my new reference. Sensational. The dual basshorns are massive, and I have often thought about super-powerful, super high quality cone subs the way you've set them up to create the next best thing...and interestingly, I also have heard that as great as the bass horns are...people still go with cone subs to really create that visceral drive low-down. So I wonder 'whats best here?'

In any event, that exact set up is what you've got...fantastic.

May I ask about dimensions of floorspace? From the tiles (beautiful by the way), it looks like each channel takes up a floor space that is 1.2m wide (edge to edge from outer edge of REL to outer edge of Trio) and 1.8m deep (ie, distance from front wall to front edge of your AG Trio)? Is that about right?

Definitely taking notes for the future!

Thank you Lloyd for you kind words.
I have made some measurement for you ( you are very close BTW) , I join also the plan of our living room.
Initially the piano was supposed to be in the place where now I have my setup and the piano is more to the center of the room.
The surface of the living room is 101,3 sqm which around 1000 sqf I guess.

Wow! Thank you very very much! That is SUPER helpful! It looks like each channel requires about 1.5m wide x 1.75m deep.

BTW, your room is spectacular! Love the layout! And the view!

Beautiful system and space! May I enquire about the sculpture in front of the piano? Similar style to a large scale Giacometti. Beautiful...
