I improved my streaming by adding three accessories to my AT&T router.

I got in a Shunyata Gemini-4 yesterday specifically for my telecommunications closet and wound up taking a big step forward on my Qobuz streaming quality.

Three things made a difference:

1. Added an Ansuz Sortz plug around a year ago. Big decrease in noise.

2. Added the Gemini as a line conditioner. Big decrease in noise.

3. Added the Ethernet ground tail from Shunyata to the Gemini. Another drop in noise.

Next up, I will add some optical converters to shorten my Ethernet cable runs.

The biggest impact for me was when I created a fiber optic bridge between my router and system (even though my modem, router and system are only 5 feet apart). The second biggest impact was when I went to a Ansuz D2 Ethernet switch.

I have had the Ansuz D2 switch for a while and it is excellent. Made a big difference. I look forward to doing the fiber optics. That is the next experiment. :)

Hey Lee, best bang for buck thing I ever did. You don't need expensive gear either. I bought a pair of 10Gtek Gigabit Ethernet Media Converters from Amazon and some fiber optic cable, about $100 total. I did put Ifi power supplies on both. I've tried more expensive, Sonore Optical Modules, etc., made no difference in my system....

Very helpful information. Scott at Evolution said the same thing.

Lee,

I notice improvement in sound quality after the following things:

1. Changed the the router power supply to LPS - I'm using sbooster + Cardas clear power cord to the electric distributer.
2. Changed connection from the wall to router, and from router to audio system to optic cables.
3. Using good quality distributer, Nordost QB8 MK2 in my case

The title of this thread is misleading, imo.
There are a million things people can BUY to improve streaming but this reads as if you are offering insight to different router/switch settings or perhaps other “practical” options.
My opinion.

I updated the title.

Things that made a big difference for me

1. Adding power conditioning to my router/modem (only place in my system power conditioning sounds good)
2. Optical converter between router and streamer
3. Timbre Audio Ethernet cable from optical box to streamer

The Sonore opticalModule Deluxe v2 was a major improvement in my system compared to the 10GTek and TP-Link FMCs that preceded it, feeding an EtherRegen. Maybe you tried an older oMD? The current version is reputed to be significantly better than the first two.

If my memory serves right, I believe it was the Deluxe V2. I also powered it with a SGC LPS. Don't get me wrong, The Sonore worked great, I just didn't find any net gain over the 10GTek in my system. When I test out gear or cables I almost always give it 2 months of back and forth testing.

Find that very odd... Night and day difference in my system...

I had always read positive things about the Deluxe V2 and that's why I gave it a try. My best guess is that my Ansuz D2 switch is the main factor in my chain. Modem - 1/2M custom ethernet cable - TP Link router - 1/2M custom ethernet cab - 10GTek - 6ft Fiber optic cab - 10GTek - 1/2M custom ethernet cab - Ansuz D2 Powerswitch - 2M Ansuz DTC2 ethernet cab - Lumin U2.

Sorry did not see that...

Hi,

Which Ifi power supply did you use with the media converters? The X or power 2?

Here are the items that I use on each of my Xfinity Cable Modem, Firewalla Gold Pro Hardware Firewall / Router, and LHY FMC:
1) LHY Linear Power Supply (for each the Cable Modem and Router)
2) Swiss Digital Fuse Box with Extreme Piggy Tail & Graphene Sluggo (for the Linear Power Supplies of Modem and Router, and for FMC)
3) Vanguard White Label Silver DC Cable (for the two Linear Power Supplies for Modem and Router)
4) Lessloss Prime Power Cord (A/C outlet to each of the two Linear Power Supplies and to the FMC)
5) Synergistic Research Atmosphere SX Reference Ethernet Cables (Modem to Router, and Router to FMC)
6) Synergistic Research MiG 3.0 Footers (Three under each of the Modem, Router, and FMC)

The LHY FMC connects to LHY SW-6 switch via 30 meters of Optospan LCELite Ultra Low Loss Fiber Optic cable and Optospan 'PSFP-11DT31K002' SFP's. LHY SW-6 connects to DAC / Streamer via Synergistic Research Atmosphere SX Reference Ethernet Cable.

Thus, I do not use WiFi in streaming music. I do use one ethernet port from the Firewalla Gold Pro Hardware Firewall / Router to connect to a Firewalla AP7 which feeds other AP7's for mesh network to support WiFi needs of non-audio devices.

I'm getting ready to set up the audio system devices on a separate VLAN in my firewall / router to isolate it from other devices. Will report back if it makes an audible difference.

Which Xfinity cable modem? And what kind of connector do you use for the modem?

I'm curious because my setup uses an Xfinity XB8 "Gateway" and I didn't think there was a way to use an LPS instead of the supplied SMPS.
