everything was perfect and I would like to thank again Oliver and Caroline Göbel for their great hospitality and all the information they happily shared with us during the event.

Actually I found the big Aries Cerat speakers to be good sounding today for the short time I was in that room. Far too big for me and not very attractive at all, but the sound was on a high level.

The market is in this high end quite focused on very large and spectacular setups you’re right. If you look close you can also see examples of good sounding setups that are less imposing and more focused on getting the music across and getting out of the way of that music. A good question is whether you could actually live with such a system in any of the rooms you visit. To me it’s interesting to see what technology and creativity come up with, and to see and hear what’s possible. On the other hand you can also hear limitations, room problems or effects that are enlarged out of proportion, at least I do. Have fun tomorrow!

Agree, I think the Aries Cerat was very good.

Rather poor-sounding video alas, but I can tell that the new Audionec open baffle range is stunning. The big model here (96 dB) impressed me on the Brussels show. It was demoed with Meitner electronics. Very, very good. Sounded 'live' and (slightly) 'clean', but not clinical. Very good expressiveness. On the big model, they use two custom-made 96 dB sensitivity 38cm woofers. (By contrast, I am hugely disappointed by the sound of this video).

Needless to remind WBF members that Audionec was the second brand that DCC had challenged for an in-room comparison at his place (it was another model though, higher in the range), before he finally choosed his last loudspeakers pair (Stenheim Reference Ultime Two).

Thin, flat dynamics and flat stage.
I know it’s not the Aries Cerat, as I have them at home and they are far from thin and flat.

The Marco Serri design seems interesting, as far as I can see: AMT tweeter in dipole (semi-open baffle at the rear); maybe paper-cone midrange.

How did it sound? did you like it?

It was a nice sounding well integrated speaker despite its large size. Smooth rather than really punchy.

There was a lot of coherent sound but simply were playing too loud when we were there.

Amazing dynamics and Maria Callas voice was belissima! Some coloration but you just don’t care with the immersive sound.

Lovely tansparent sound and good dynamics . Bass is punchy but perhaps not the last word in extension. Great micro dynamics!
