Didn't know Lamar was awarded a Pulitzer. Thanks for pointing that out.The truth is, I am not a big fan of rap music and I didn’t “get” the message….but I do respect that alot of people are and do.
Thanks for the thoughtful response.I didn't pose the initial question to criticize other people's taste in music. When I hear something as foreign as rap to my ears, I want insight as to its merit and attraction for others.
What I do have an issue with is the prevalent use of profanity in R and B as a means to insult and disparage others. I see no positive to that.
Thanks for pointing that out but I must be honest. Due to the unintelligibility of the lyrics, I missed the "message". A side comment. I view music as means to unite, not to divide. This was a well done performance aside of words i could not understand , but the message was red white and blue and that was great to me.
Absent being able to understand what was said, do you think they "got" the message? If they did, how?It was a subtle political message. Ask a young person
I'm not sure I understand whether you don't respect "those people" who are rappers or "those people" who like their work.Good for you, I don't respect 'any' of those people ......![]()
lets put it this way, any rapper that promotes violence and any person that likes that sort thing I despise. As for the genre itself, I wouldn't waste five minutes listening to it..........I'm not sure I understand whether you don't respect "those people" who are rappers or "those people" who like their work.

Twitch, your reading comprehension is off, that's NOT what I said !
Twitch,
I'm really not offended and assume you have no feelings about my kids but I have to point out that someone that hasn't listened to five minutes of rap isn't really qualified to say much about it. Tupac, Biggie, Snoopdogg, all mainstream at some point and all gangsta rap with violent lyrics, so do you despise the rapper and the people that like that sort of thing like you mentioned above? Previously you responded to Glide3's quote that you don't respect 'any' of those people, my reading comprehension tells me you are bitter towards rap music and you like to generalize. I do like your name though.
Dave
Fair enough. I’m good with your opinion about rap music but not its listeners. It was the most viewed halftime show of all time. I don’t condone violence, I’m a peace through strength type of guy and am ok with John Wick and Dr Dre .For the record, my response was more or less to what Gordon(the Op that started this thread) had said/asked. As for 'feelings towards your kids', no, none of what I said was directed towards them(assuming they don't condone the violence crap). As for gangsta rap, if that encourages and or promotes violence, then again, yes it's garbage. Can you at least agree with that ?
As for my generalization of rap, I'm not bitter, I simply don't like it .........
