Do we really want What'sBestForum to ever become AVShowroomsForum?...

Hollywood

A touch of mild Serial Killer Cannibalism aside I concur entirly, A Complete Gentleman.

Are you slamming "Serial Killer Cannibalism"?
A lot of people need significant protein.
The world is over-populated; it is a solution.
Hollywood is certainly advocating zombies, vampires, etc.
zz.

Differences of opinion are fine , if expressed with respect.

Having had the pleasure of meeting Ron today for a late lunch in London, I agree with Marc!

Thank you, Joe. I very much enjoyed meeting you too, and I look forward to seeing you again in February!

Ron is probably one of the nicest and most sincere people I have ever met and would agree. There has to be something wrong over there for anyone to ban Ron. I have hosted him 3X and have been to his Beverly Hills palatial home a few weeks ago and he is just the most unassuming guys anyone could ever meet

Thank you very much, Steve, for your very kind words. I truly appreciate the support!

Getting to know you and developing this friendship has been an unexpected joy!

I would say that differences of opinion, if expressed with respect, are needed and mandatory in an hobby that is mainly dominated by opinions.

Maybe in the context of the person we are discussing, I would add that it should be differences of opinion based on experience

IMHO, for everybody, respect implies that you have direct experience with the subject you are giving opinions about and not supporting your opinion on rumors.

I haven't read everything that "certain member" has posted, but I haven't really seen ayd shilling or trolling (a subject or position that is highly controversial or challenging to your sensibilities is not trolling, no matter how hard you find it to tolerate such impudence). And I've seen more violations of TOS from the outraged than from him. Misinformation? Good lord, kids, this is an audiophile forum. MOST of it is misinformation. Some of the foundational beliefs of the hobby are, at least unsupported information. I think there are a few here who really just can't stand to have their wisdom questioned in anything but the most polite, almost apologetic terms. The answer isn't banning anyone who is too direct or who has a sense of humor regarding the ridiculous. The answer is grow thicker skin, girls.

Tim

Yes!

I am sure many of us would act and post differently if we knew we would inevitably have to meet everyone face to face. I am a newbie here and was really shocked by the inflammatory comments about the AVS forum. I was a member of the AVS forum before I joined WBF and have no problem saying I am a happy member of both. As a matter of fact I want to applaud Peter Brueninger for the hard work he puts into his YouTube videos. I cannot imagine ever having the opportunity to see the broad range of hi fi equipment he has showcased over the years. I have received nothing but respect and help from everyone on the AVS forum. I personally met and had dinner with Peter and his wife Terry at the New York Audio show this year. I couldn't imagine a more enjoyable evening reminiscing of our many years in this hobby. I don't know what happened with WBF and Peter and don't really care. I think everyone has something to contribute be it opinionated or not, even Blizzard / Mike. Just my thoughts and opinion.

With respect, yes. But I'd rather someone speak plainly than hide the knife thrust behind a velvet tongue.
(My apologies for the twisted metaphor...)

Exactly. Those are the guys to watch out for. I may have an direct approach to sharing information, but I'm clearly no wolf in sheeps clothing.

I consider Myles a frend and not anyones "lapdog."

Mike I have grown fond of your machine gun approach. ;);)

Although I've read this book 10 times, I really have a hard time being that guy. Yes I know. Maybe I should change. But thanks, maybe being myself isn't so bad after all :)

Precisely. It is very irritating and off-putting when people pontificate about things without direct experience. And the people doing so are running the risk of making utter fools of themselves.

(Personally I have been careful with respect to this most of the time, but I should have been even more so in a few cases. So I am not completely blameless either, even though I believe that I have committed none of the egregious offenses others have.)

I had a hard time just reading the title. Is this military? Or just one of those awful success manuals ripe with military references? That stuff gives me the willies.

I think I respectfully disagree with that. If an idea depends on maths and physics, for example, then it matters not one jot whether the person talking about it has direct experience of it: it is correct or it isn't, and I am happy to read their views.

How do we define "experience" anyway? Simply listening to something doesn't give any special insights in my opinion. Even building something with DIY, or having shop-floor work experience doesn't automatically make a person's arguments any more convincing. I think I can recognise a good argument or not, irrespective of whether the person claims to be "experienced". I would rather discuss ideas than just trading experiences.

nc42acc, please make y'self savvy of Peter's round robin announcement that the WBF membership are all wankers. Then next time you have a bite to eat w/him, you can bring it up w/him, get his views and have something to digest beyond yr meal. No disrespect to you, total disrespect from Peter to the community here. I won't read/watch anything by the man out of principle. But I'm sure he's delightful company.

No no. Read it. It's a masterpiece. A real eye opener on human nature.

I have been called much worse than a "wanker" To quote Rodney King "Can we all get along?"
