Starting this thread for YG fans and interest in the upcoming Peak series from YG Acoustics.

The teaser has been shown in the latest issues of Stereophile and TAS.

From this, we know that it will be a collection of new speakers.

Likely 3 models that compete directly with the A series from Magico.

This should be interesting and make the brand more "accessible" to a wider audience.

Looks like the A series is finally getting some competition.

This is indeed great news.

YG Ascent - Peak series
Did anyone listened to the "more affordable" YG Peak series?
Especially the YG Ascent ? (the first 3-ways among floorstanders):
https://www.yg-acoustics.com/products/ascent/

- how do they play at low volume? (life, details, expressiveness at low volume?) Is it necessary to pump up the volume to make they sing?
- what about the midrange?
- ease of drive? (which amplifier did you tried them with?)

Thanks !

I have heard the Peaks speakers several times at shows. I have the Reference Sonja XVi, the Sonja Center and a pair of Hailey R1.1.. All YGs I have heard including my XVi play great at low volume. They will play all detail etc. no matter the volume. The Peaks have the same mid-range drivers. The Peaks are supposed to be easier to drive than the Reference. The Zesto room at Axpona got great sound with tube amps driving Peaks Summit speakers. I drive my XVi with a Boulder 3060 amp so ease of drive is not a concern.

I recently acquired the Ascent. I’m using a Bel Canto Black Ex separates stack (dac + stereo amp) to drive the speakers. I normally listen at a very low SPL and feel like even at 60-70 db they feel “alive.” However, going up a touch above this level brings a little more slam to the low end. I find the speakers extremely transparent to everything upstream, so there really isn’t any exaggeration of bass, for example.

The midrange is excellent. Voices sound real and there is an excellent depth (and width) to the soundstage.

FWIW, I haven’t heard anything outside of the Peaks series so don’t have a great point of comparisons to other YG lines.

I would point out that those tube amps were 250w monoblocks. I only have high powered amps on hand, but am also curious about how difficult they are to drive. One review mentioned that they are slightly difficult to drive and one brief exchange I had with a YG and Accuphase dealer said an E-700 wouldn’t be sufficient to drive the Ascent. Perhaps others have additional perspectives to share here?
