In UK, we have the AC Cobra to thank for our 70mph speed limit as there was a public outcry after the factory were caught testing their prototype at over 180mph on the motorway. Subsequent Governments have found it inconvenient to raise this limit for reasons of revenue generation and political virtue signalling.

The Fascist Liberals want to protect us from (cars, guns..you name it) ? Is that why they can't mind their own f-ing business ? Your righteous indignation is laughable.

At least I don't vote for low-life scum-bag crime bosses with no ethics or values that don't give a rip about our Constitution or rule of law. The closest thing to Fascism and dictatorship that I have seen in the history of the US is what we have right now.

Even all those southern evangelicals admit that they voted only against abortion and against contraception, nothing else. They don't care if our leaders are corrupt criminal low-life and even pawns of Putin. Some Christians.

I assume radar detectors are used largely or exclusively on empty roads. The only person at risk in such a situation is the speeding driver.

Fortunately even people who seek in many areas of life to impose their values on others cannot outlaw acceleration!

Floor it, Bruce B! Floor it, Christian!:D

Careful. If your tires slip at all they can give tickets for that. It happened to my uncle who was driving a work van and took off quick to enter traffic, over a small change between the road and parking lot height. Yes the cop that did this is scum, but it still can happen. And this was many years ago.

Also in some areas of Cali they are giving tickets left and right for exceeding the limits of loudness for exhaust. Palo Alto has cracked down majorly on this, basically banning car gatherings in popular areas. Part of me thinks it's lame. But honestly some of these cars are too loud. What I don't know is if the ones that are super loud are stock or not. We have basically zero supercars where I live right now. However I know where one Lambo is at by my grandmother. I can say that's loud enough that I'm intolerant of it - I don't care if the cops ticket it into never driving again or crush it. There's plenty of guys around here with just as much horsepower in their self built cars that aren't that loud...

The worst place to use them (speed). When there is no Traffic, cops use the instant on feature meaning when they see a car approaching, the turn the gun on instantly. At that point your busted...it doesn't matter how good the radar detector is. The best time to speed is with traffic when cops will keep the gun on all the time giving you adequate warning from the radar detector.

That's funny because - as you know - from a safety standpoint it's absurd.

It really isn't much different from undercover highway patrol vehicles. They are for writing tickets and nothing else. The presence of marked patrol vehicles keeps people from speeding excessively like it's the autobahn, which increases safety. Undercover vehicles could be getting people that go excessively fast to slow down regularly if they were marked, but instead they let it happen and then ticket them - they do nothing to improve safety. People speed excessively because they don't think they'll get caught; they assume they won't get the ticket so a ticket isn't a viable deterrent. But if you see marked cars all the time, you simply won't speed excessively in that area - safety is increased.

The biggest reason for not raising speed limits is because human reaction and breaking times are not improving as fast as handling and acceleration. But they're still too slow in general even accounting for all of that. 55-60mph? Miserably unnecessary in a modern car in most areas.

It feels wrong to be going far under the capability of the car, and always will. They should make cars feel less stable is they want people to slow down to archaic speed limits, more road noise, more feedback. Good luck getting that to happen... But anyways I despise the ever increasing intrusion to freedom like being speed checked by things in the air or boxes on the side of the road. In China they take pictures of the faces of j-walkers and send them a ticket... (some spray water, too, onto your feet/legs) Too much for me, I'd rather check out than live under that thumb.

It was rigged by the GOP and the Russians, Gerrymandering, voter suppression, voter intimidation... need I go on? and a lot of information on Trump was hidden, including: His tax returns, ongoing litigation, payoffs etc... We all know what the Russians did, but did you know that they funded the NRA to the tune of more than $20 million before the election as a pass-through to elect Trump?

And Trump claimed the election was rigged. It was, for him. I hope that 2016 will be the last election plagued with these deceptions.

We need presidential candidate vetting and more constraints on executive power. The government is too easily corrupted and changed into a Oligarchy controlled by one person.

My radar detector can detect all the crap on the left and on the right.
...In front of course and behind.

From above it's tricky; tough to abort all the heavy loads of lies from the skies of spies.

Canada's been full of it for years! Are you guys even allowed radar detectors?

Or course we are; we're a developed society.

* I use BEL (Beltronics) for the last twenty years plus. It's very affordable and I only plug it on highways where cops need to collect money for their city's bureaucrats.
But I'm not a speeder, I'm a controlled cruiser, rarely exceeding ten miles per hour over the 110-120km/hour posted speed limit.

Also, I'm not 25 years old anymore, I take my time to live a quality and free life with my family, friends and neighbors and cats and dogs.

I'm versatile now, with more wisdom acquired over the experienced years of best living.
I'm in an advanced exchange program; detect problems before they happen and switch direction.
I use more my eyes and ears and brain than ever before...it's paying off big time, with interests and dividends.

Do you have another question for a Canadian living on Vancouver Island? :b
___

I still use an older model, very similar to this one:

I use Escort Passport 9500 IX, but since our vehicle got impounded for a week near the Alberta - British columbia border, I drive like a grandma... my wife and daughter have accumulated more speeding tickets than me since

Christian,

You know better than to write stuff like this. This blatantly violates the prohibition on discussing politics.

We probably cross each other on the same highways in the past. ...Banff, Jasper, and many more, over the US border.
