What's the best layout for my acoustic panels?

Recently, I bought 12 acoustic foam panels for my family to sleep while I play midnight :D

I have a doubt about positioning those panels, because they will not cover entirely, so how do I mount them?

Should I mount them like on the second photo, face to face, or give them a little space between (last photo) will be better to prevent sound from leaving through the door? HELPP

I doubt it will reduce sound leak out. But I’d suggest place like in the second photos, leaving small gap to be most effective.

What I have done is to buy a studio door. These are solid doors that have a rating on acoustic attenuation. You also need to install a seal around the door frame that prevents sound leaking through the gap. It is a one off expense and well worth considering. Otherwise, you will only be able to play music when nobody else is at home.
Sound travels along the walls, ceiling and floor. It travels better through building materials than through air. The only way to reduce these is by isolating the whole room (panels on all the walls and ceiling, floating the flooring), but the door will help.

I am assuming that your door is solid, and fairly thick and your walls are solid brick all the way to the roof. The door is the weak link to the family area. Your best bet is to seal the entire surrounds of the door with a rubberised seal. Don't forget to also seal the bottom of the door.

If your walls are not solid brick all the way to the top, then sealing the door frame will not help much. The sound will still travel to the other rooms via the ceiling.

Besides the good advice you already got from others, I would recommend investing in thick wool absorber panels. Something like 2-3" deep. They will really dampen the sound. Shallower panels from foam have much less damping than those.
