I've spoken to experienced dealers that can't tell the real/fakes on some cables. Like with most counterfeits there is usually something that is overlooked or tagging that can easily be wiped off, etc.

Is there any way to differentiate the fakes from authentic?

most spendy products have serial numbers. prior to purchase, get the provenance (history of ownership) from whoever you are buying it from (they will have some info if it's legit.....if not then move on), then email the manufacturer and see what they say. most manufacturers are interested in knowing about this kind of thing. some are not responsive to any type of question. but in that case, why would you want their products to begin with?

if it's too good to be true.....the baloney radar should activate.

If you have access to both the real cable and the fake side by side most of the time it is very easy and immediate. Stiffness, quality of the connectors, cable diameter, quality of plastic materials and packing are easy to check. However, when I have got used cables I always checked capacitance with a meter - just in case ... :) Although I had to confirm to few a friends who did not believe that if is too good to be true it is not true, that they had been deceived, I never had any problem. But I have seen a few of the usual fakes at sites like audiogon or audiomarket.

This is off course nasty business , i Just was in China doing QC for a technical design company .
I ve never seen so many cars , factories and what not , talking about a huge market the prices are around the same as Europe in Shanghai area.
The gryphon must be pretty big in China for taking on such a copycat operation
Population estimated around 1,5 billion

They fake almost EVERYTHING. I used to work for Vestas and they got ahold of their 2MW turbine and made a near exact copy and sold it under a Chinese brand. I really don't understand the world's tolerance for this. It's been going on for so long and it seems like nobody wants to do anything about it.

With cables the easiest give-away are the plugs.

Also, plenty of cable companies use counterfeit plugs or plugs that look almost exactly like a major manufacturer on their cables, but aren't. I've seen reviewers review such cables and never say a word about the fake plugs. It's disgusting IMO.

Labourcosts are much lower, if not then the products would be still made in Europe , quality wise.
But Holland for example has chased heavy industrybusiness away themselves with all those rules.
Its not all China to blame .

NBS Power cord Fake--the real ones are twisted strands per lead and soldered to terminations.

Unfortunately the bogus are pretty damn good at visual glance --you need to cut the Shrink and inspect for verification.

The Chinese have no ethical code for the idea of copyrights or patents. How do you think Behringer exists? They don't have labs, or even normal engineers... they just backwards engineer everything from other companies. At this point it's almost like a funny honor to be copied. You've been able to buy "Goldmund" amplifiers on eBay for awhile....

Overall I wonder who is getting these?

That, is simply horrible!

It's like copying red Italian women's shoes.

Those people should be sued, locked up in jail for a long time and do hard labour.
...Building walls.

I bought recently some XLO signature RCA cables in Italy, unfortunately fake cables. The seller rejected , that I can send the cables back and I did not wanted to start a cross border court story.
Finally I tried the cables. Fortunately they are very good. A little different from the original XLO (which I also own), but still very good.
So I can understand, that many fake cables never get identified, as some do deliver a good performance.

I can easily make the difference between genuine and fake AQ cables...

P.S. There's no resemblance in their sound whatsoever!
