Under The Dome

I am diggin the serious, but I read the book(so far much better) and that is helping me read things into the story that are not actually in the tv show.

I never read the book Scott.

How true to the story is the TV adaptation?

I like the series but am not going ga-ga over it as some of the story pretexts are just so unrealistic. Nonetheless I intend to tough it out and watch it til the end HOWEVER I am understanding the network wants to turn this into a lengthy "Lost" type show which was so successful for 7-8 years.

Now for tomorrow's episode, will Junior truly blow off Big Jim's head

I found last week's episode when they found the mound which contains the centremost functioning of the dome as it shows a dome under a dome under a dome under a dome etc

The TV adaptation is pretty far off, but the characters are mostly accurate with a few back story changes and of course we have a dome in both :). I have heard that there will be a season two which for me is a good and a bad thing. I was hoping to tie this series up in one season, but the good news is that Stephen King will wright several of the season two episodes starting with the first episode. I think he will shift the story more to the book. Or it could go like some SK books turned movies, yicks!

It would have been nice to see it as the 13 week mini series as was the original intent but the network has a desire to turn it into a Lost type show and bleed the concept for years to come

Yep, we may see it slowly go down the crapper :p

Scott

without giving anything away does the book reveal where the dome came from and how to get rid of it? (perhaps you should tell me in a PM so as not to openly divulge anything)

I must admit that yesterday's episode drew me in and finally got me interested in what the heck is going on

well the season finale was last night and a cliff hanger of sorts. For me the show is good from far but far from good. They really are trying to make it into a Lost type series that will go on for years

I thought the season finale was disappointing.

Or like taking the book The Hobbit and somehow turning that into three freaking films while each Lord of the Rings was one film per book.
Annoying to say the least when they diverge from the original complete construct-framework of a story.

I have upgraded my vote from bad to watchable in the later episodes. The finale was rather disappointing.

One thing I don't like is how many times the revisit the same thing. The kid is bad. The kid is good. The kid is bad. The kid is good. Barby (sp?) is in jail, then he is not, then he is again.

Looking back, Fox thought this show at best would be average. They were so worried that it would not do well (with respect to advertising revenue) that they sold the streaming rights to Amazon. The show has proved more popular of course but clearly they did not plan to put A+ people in charge of it, especially at the start.

Did you mean CBS rather than Fox

I haven't watched this latest episode yet, but if it's a cliff hanger leading to another season, I'm probably not interested. It's OK. It's no Lost. Not worth a second season IMO.

Tim

I agree Tim. They should have been true to the book and made the miniseries and end it there. Huge disappointment even though I understand King and Spielberg will be doing some serious consulting in Season 2.

Here is a quote I found interesting from Stephen King on the series:

"[If] you look closely, you’ll see that most of my characters are still there, although some have been combined and others have changed jobs. That’s also true of the big stuff, like the supermarket riot, the reason for all that propane storage, and the book’s thematic concerns with diminishing resources. Many of the changes wrought by Brian K. Vaughan and his team of writers have been of necessity, and I approved of them wholeheartedly. Some have been occasioned by their plan to keep the Dome in place over Chester’s Mill for months instead of little more than a week, as is the case in the book. Other story modifications are slotting into place because the writers have completely re-imagined the source of the Dome."

So very little is true to the book

I think they should have changed the name of the show to the Blame it on Barbi show.

Hey there is poop on the grass. Barbi did it! Lets get him...

Cover him in shrimp and it'll be "Shrimp on the Barbi".

The show has it's share of pointless violence, but nowhere near the gratuitous, crazed beat downs or homicidal lust of "Lost" yet. Didn't realize it was the cliff hanger season finale. I was hoping the dome would take them for a ride in outer space (no, I didn't read the book).

Well, now that Hank is dead I think Big Jim needs to live. :)

I feel Banshee is the king of gratuitous, crazed beat downs these days.
Some incredible intense fights, with a large dash of being pointless :)
