A "ramen" western. It's really a classic western; but it has side stories about food that are very amusing. It's one of the funniest movies made, while having such an odd side that you can't get enough. If you haven't seen it you''re denying yourself a treasure.

Ah yes, an old favourite. It is broadcast every year or two on SBS in Australia. SBS stands for "Special Broadcast Station" - on the face of it, it is a government funded TV station which is supposed to specialize in cultural and multilingual programs. But in reality, it has a preference for showing foreign soft porn movies like Tampopo. Most Australians call it the "Sex Broadcasting Station".

If you would like to watch weird Japanese sexual predilections like eating sushi from a naked woman's body, you have to watch Tampopo.

Watch 'Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories' on Netflix.

I would not call it a sex show. Nakedness is implied but not shown, for example. (it's not even part of the main story line)

You must have watched a censored version then. It is not part of the main story line, but there was plenty of nudity. There was even a part where one of the diners picked up a piece of sushi from the naked woman, inserted it into her genitals, and ate it.

The original movie was terrific as are each of these vignettes.

The Manga was first, then the TV series in 2009, then the movie in 2015, new Netflix episodes now, so what's 'The original movie'?

Ya... there was none or that, that's for sure. Sounds like the non-directors cut is probably more appealing.

I stand corrected. I thought the movie came first then the TV series.

I can understand: my first exposure myself is the Netflix co-produced show in 2016, and I heard of a movie and perhaps a Korean one as well and it gets quite difficult to know the whole chronology, so I wanted to ensure I hadn't missed any to look for, as I would really like to see them all one day.

Similar issue with the availability of past seasons of "Terrace House" - we only have 2 Seasons and a future one in 2017 but in Japan, they have more previous Seasons.

TH is quite enjoyable as well, highly recommended.
