Well.. the layout are very similar , perhaps the machines share some components.

Highly doubtful.. especially in the 70-80's

Tascam = Japan
Studer = Swiss

No. But the Studer has had its lower panel Photoshopped and flipped into a horizontal mirror image.

Obviously, both the Studer and Tascam use English, not Japanese or German/French/Italian/Romansh, so they must have both copied Ampex.
